Lottery Ticket Security Method

US Patent:
2004005, Mar 25, 2004
Filed:
Jul 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/629686
Inventors:
Joseph Bennett - Sugar Hill GA, US
International Classification:
A63F003/06
US Classification:
273/269000
Abstract:
In a method for manufacturing instant lottery tickets where book numbers and ticket numbers are printed on the tickets utilizing a dual security process such that the book numbers are shuffled in each pool before the tickets are printed to break the link between the book numbers the ticket numbers or validation numbers, a reversing process can be used under certain predefined conditions to relate the original book numbers to the ticket numbers or validation numbers. In one example, where a shuffling algorithm utilizing seeds is used to shuffle the book numbers, the seeds used in the algorithm are maintained in an encrypted file. A decryption key for the encrypted seed file can be used by a lottery administration or trusted third party to reconstruct game play indicia for game adjustment purposes and manufacturing adjustments. To enhance security, the independent third party can also be used to administer the encryption and decryption keys during the ticket manufacturing process and during life of the instant ticket game.

System And Method For Implementing An Additional Game To Players Of A Lottery Game

US Patent:
2008004, Feb 21, 2008
Filed:
Aug 21, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/842207
Inventors:
JOSEPH BENNETT - Sugar Hill GA, US
JEFFREY MARTINECK - Alpharetta GA, US
International Classification:
A63F 9/24
US Classification:
463017000
Abstract:
A system and method for providing an additional or end-of-game drawing to players of a lottery game is provided. In one embodiment, unique validation codes provided on lottery tickets can be encrypted using an algorithm and used to create a record of such encrypted codes. A player then participates in the lottery and subsequently submits the validation code from the ticket to a lottery provider. The lottery provider applies the algorithm to the submitted validation code to create another encryption code for comparison with the record of encrypted codes. In the event a match is found, the player is entered into a second-chance or end of game drawing. Upon entry, the player is no longer required to maintain possession of the ticket for subsequent validation.

Lottery Game Structure

US Patent:
2003018, Sep 25, 2003
Filed:
Feb 14, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/370317
Inventors:
Joseph Bennett - Sugar Hill GA, US
International Classification:
A63G031/00, A63F009/24
US Classification:
463/017000, 472/137000
Abstract:
In an instant lottery ticket game structure having a lottery administration host computer that includes a ticket validation file containing prize codes for at least some of the lottery tickets, provision for instant lottery tickets having variable redemption values can be made by allowing the prize codes in the validation file to be changed under certain predetermined circumstances. At least some of the lottery tickets in the game, whether printed or electronically simulated, can be provided with play indicia under a removable coating that indicates that the redemption value of that lottery ticket is variable. Using the host computer, a lottery administration can change the prize codes and therefore the redemption value of these instant lottery tickets according to the predetermined criteria such as the termination of a game. In some cases, a player can have the option to redeem an instant lottery ticket for a first value or wait until after termination of the game where a possibly higher redemption value might be assigned to that ticket due to the host computer randomly selecting that ticket to change its prize code to a greater value.

Lottery Audit System

US Patent:
2003011, Jun 19, 2003
Filed:
Dec 12, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/317577
Inventors:
Joseph Bennett - Sugar Hill GA, US
International Classification:
G06F017/00
US Classification:
463/017000
Abstract:
In an instant lottery ticket system having a lottery administration host computer that includes a ticket validation file, security of the validation file is provided by an audit system that allows periodic audits of the validation file. Audit data, based on ticket data that is used to print the instant lottery tickets, can be compared to the information in the validation file to confirm the integrity of the validation file. The audit data can include all or a portion of the records that should be in the validation file or selected portions of data in the records such as ticket redemption values. Alternatively, the audit data can be computed from the ticket data into a data string for comparison with a data string computed from the validation file. Security can be further enhanced by incorporating time or other variable data in the data strings. The audit data can be transmitted to the host computer or placed on a read only memory for use by the host computer in the audit process.
