Abstract:
A transportable container for a medical specimen, preferably in the form of a Coplin jar. The container includes a jar molded from a thermoplastic material having an open top, with the lid hingedly coupled to the top of the jar for movement between open and closed positions. The top of the jar includes a rim projecting upwardly therefrom, with the lid having a recessed inside surface including a sealing ring therein shaped like the projecting rim. The sealing ring contacts the rim and seals thereagainst when the lid is closed. A snap lock latch is coupled to the lid and releaseably snap locks to a keeper on the jar to positively lock the lid to the jar to prevent leaks. The container can be used with a kit which includes a tray which receives the container in sideways fashion only.

A safety disposable needle has a shroud with a canted bore region slidably mounted thereon. A face of the shroud directed to engage the skin has an adhesive coating for fixing the shroud to the skin as the needle is withdrawn and its tip enters the shroud after which the shroud is separated from the skin as it engages an enlargement on the needle and is then canted to entrap the needle tip.

Abstract:
Apparatus for applying a disinfectant solution which may include hydrogen peroxide, a salt and a buffer to an instrument wherein the instrument can be inserted into an opening in the wall of a vessel containing a disinfectant normally at a level below the opening. A floatation plunger is urged downwardly to displace the disinfectant to a level in engagement with the instrument and the electrodes are energized to activate the disinfectant. A magnetic latch holds the floatation plunger in place during disinfection and the disinfectant level is sensed to enable energization of the electrodes only when the level is sufficient to engage the instrument.
