Functionality For Providing De-Identified Data

US Patent:
8510850, Aug 13, 2013
Filed:
Dec 17, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/970984
Inventors:
Bryan J. Dove - Seattle WA, US
Craig F. Feied - Kirkland WA, US
Michael T. Gillam - Silver Spring MD, US
Jonathan A. Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Dobroslav K. Kolev - Vienna VA, US
Kurt Arley Luke Thorne - Hyattsville MD, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 21/00
US Classification:
726 26
Abstract:
A de-identification system is described herein for converting original messages into de-identified messages. The de-identification system leverages original message-inception-functionality which operates as a gateway for providing original messages for use by a production environment. Namely, the de-identification system includes a transformation module that receives the original messages from the original message-inception functionality. The transformation module then converts instances of sensitive information contained in the original messages into non-sensitive information, to produce the de-identified messages. A de-identified environment can consume the de-identified messages with high confidence that the messages have been properly sanitized. This is because the de-identification work has been performed at a well-contained quarantine level of the message processing functionality.

Prabhdeep Singh - Germantown MD, US
Michael Todd Gillam - Washington DC, US
Craig F. Feied - Kirkland WA, US
Jonathan Alan Handler - Northbrook IL, US

International Classification:
G06F 17/27, G06Q 50/00, G06F 3/048, G06Q 10/00, G06F 17/24, G06F 15/16
US Classification:
705 2, 715256, 715277, 709203, 715781, 704 9
Abstract:
The synchronous semantic processing technique described herein provides the level of completeness of a document in real-time as a user is creating or editing the document and provides recommendations to the user to increase the level of completeness. In one embodiment, the level of completeness of a medical document, and the state of the components of the document that are used to determine level, are used to make recommendations to a user (e.g., a physician) to provide additional information for the components that determine the level, thereby increasing the level. The level of medical documentation can be represented by an Evaluation and Management (E&M) coding level, which is a U.S. standard defined to evaluate how comprehensive a medical document is. The E&M level is used to determine the completeness of the medical document and to make recommendations to the user to improve the quality and the completeness of the document.

Automated Acquisition Of Facial Images

US Patent:
2011017, Jul 14, 2011
Filed:
Jan 12, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/685686
Inventors:
Michael Gillam - Washington DC, US
John Christopher Gillotte - Washington DC, US
Craig Frederick Feied - Kirkland WA, US
Jonathan Alan Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Renato Reder Cazangi - Rockville MD, US
Rajesh Kutpadi Hegde - Redmond WA, US
Zhengyou Zhang - Bellevue WA, US
Cha Zhang - Sammamish WA, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382103
Abstract:
Described is a technology by which medical patient facial images are acquired and maintained for associating with a patient's records and/or other items. A video camera may provide video frames, such as captured when a patient is being admitted to a hospital. Face detection may be employed to clip the facial part from the frame. Multiple images of a patient's face may be displayed on a user interface to allow selection of a representative image. Also described is obtaining the patient images by processing electronic documents (e.g., patient records) to look for a face pictured therein.

Programmatic Access To Terminologies Expressed In Hierarchical Form

US Patent:
2013011, May 2, 2013
Filed:
Oct 28, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/283596
Inventors:
Bryan Dove - Seattle WA, US
Jonathan A. Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Michael J. Bortnick - Oswego IL, US
Dongbai Guo - Sammamish WA, US
International Classification:
G06N 5/02
US Classification:
706 55
Abstract:
The described implementations relate to expressing terminologies in a hierarchical form. One implementation can receive a terminology that can include concept-code pairs. For example, each of the concept-code pairs can include a concept and a code that is assigned to the concept by the terminology. The implementation can map the concepts to levels of a hierarchical ontology, and associate some of the concepts across different levels of the hierarchical ontology. The implementation can also provide programmatic access to the concept-code pairs of the terminology via the hierarchical ontology.

Automated Joining Of Disparate Data For Database Queries

US Patent:
2011032, Dec 29, 2011
Filed:
Jun 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/823145
Inventors:
Imran Mohiuddin - Redmond WA, US
Mahmood Gulam Qadir - Redmond WA, US
Yi Miao - Bellevue WA, US
Bryan Jason Dove - Seattle WA, US
Jonathan Alan Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Craig F. Feied - Kirkland WA, US
Mehul Y. Shah - Redmond WA, US
Assignee:
MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707714, 707E17054
Abstract:
Described is associating metadata with different sources of data (e.g., database tables) that allows a single view of data from the sources to be created. An administrator creates baseviews corresponding to database tables and associates metadata with the baseviews, including primary key metadata for the baseviews and meta-tags for one or more of the columns of each baseview. A user selects fields (corresponding to table columns) from a starting baseview, along with fields from any other baseview that has metadata that matches the starting baseview's metadata. A join mechanism automatically creates the view if a metadata match is detected.

Inventors:
Eric I-Chao Chang - Beijing, CN
Michael Todd Gillam - Silver Spring MD, US
Yan Xu - Beijing, CN
Craig Feied - Washington DC, US
Jonathan Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA

US Classification:
707740, 707769, 707802, 707E17014, 707E17044, 707E17089
Abstract:
One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed that provide for document retrieval where a user can identify key attributes of potential target documents that are desirable (e.g., have a particular semantic content for the user). Further, relevant documents that comprise the desired semantic content can be retrieved. Additionally, the user can provide feedback on the retrieved documents, for example, based on key semantic concepts found in the documents, and the input can be used to update the classification. For example, this process can be iterated to improve the retrieval and precision of documents found through machine learning techniques.

Automatic Generation Of Virtual Database Schemas

US Patent:
8452808, May 28, 2013
Filed:
Mar 2, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/715409
Inventors:
Bryan Dove - Seattle WA, US
Jonathan Alan Handler - Northbrook IL, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 7/14, G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707770, 707717, 707803
Abstract:
A data consumer is provided with a system that enables automatic generation of a virtual database schema in order to support a customized pattern of data consumption across one or more source databases. In one embodiment, a metadata manager component is configured to facilitate creation of a first data tag and a second data tag. A schema definition manager component is configured to facilitate creation of a data entity that groups the first data tag with the second data tag. A virtual schema generation service component generates the virtual database schema by analyzing the data entity and, based on the grouping of the first data tag with the second data tag, automatically generating and storing a database query statement that, when executed, causes a retrieval of data consistent with data location indicators included in the first and second data tags.
