Antiseptic Soap Dispenser With Selectively Variable Dose

Antiseptic Soap Dispenser With Selectively Variable Dose

US Patent:
6189740, Feb 20, 2001
Filed:
Jan 25, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/237221
Inventors:
Allan E. Wade - Manchester MO
Keith D. Alsberg - Chicago IL
Jon B. Taylor - Chicago IL
James D. deBeers - Chicago IL
Assignee:
Steris Inc - Temecula CA
International Classification:
B65D 3700
US Classification:
222207
Abstract:
An antiseptic soap dispenser has a dispensing system (28) which includes a pressure actuated platen (32) and a moveable roller (94) for dispensing soap from a replaceable container (12). A dispensing tube (10) with an integral self-sealing valve (40) at a downstream end is connected to a neck (20) of the container. Hand pressure on the platen compresses a upstream end of the dispensing tube between the platen and the roller. With increasing pressure, the roller moves progressively down the tube to dispense soap through the valve. A volume regulator (111) controls the amount of soap dispensed. The platen returns quickly to its at-rest position once the pressure is removed, avoiding complete compression of the pathway by the roller. This minimizes air ingress, and resultant contamination of the soap. Optionally, a filtered vent (14) in a wall (22) of the container allows filtered air to enter the container in place of the soap dispensed.

Cap And Dust Cover For An Antiseptic Soap Dispenser

Cap And Dust Cover For An Antiseptic Soap Dispenser

US Patent:
6142343, Nov 7, 2000
Filed:
Jan 25, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/237264
Inventors:
Allan E. Wade - Manchester MO
Keith D. Alsberg - Chicago IL
Jon B. Taylor - Chicago IL
Assignee:
Steris Inc - Temecula CA
International Classification:
B67D 506
US Classification:
222182
Abstract:
A cap (18,120) and a thrust washer (62,128) seal a flexible silicone dispensing tube (10,118) to a neck (20,114) of a container (12,116) which holds a fluid to be dispensed. The thrust washer is shaped to inhibit contact between a lip (50,110) of the dispensing tube and the interior of the cap so that the soft material of the dispensing tube is not damaged when the cap is screwed on to the neck of the container. The thrust washer slides on the cap as the cap is screwed on to limit sliding movement relative to the dispensing tube. A dust cover (24,138) protects the dispensing tube during shipment and storage. The dust cover is attached to the cap by a frangible portion (66) which is broken prior to dispensing the cleaning fluid. A lower projecting ring (86,134) on the thrust washer prevents the dust cover from compressing and damaging the lip of the dispensing tube.

Beverage Container With Self-Contained Drinking Straw

Beverage Container With Self-Contained Drinking Straw

US Patent:
5819979, Oct 13, 1998
Filed:
May 15, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/856838
Inventors:
Peter F. Murphy - Grosse Pointe MI
Doug Brewer - Chicago IL
Dave Brown - Chicago IL
Jon Taylor - Chicago IL
Paul Doczy - Chicago IL
Assignee:
The PopStraw Company, LLC - Eastpointe MI
International Classification:
B65D 4706
US Classification:
220706
Abstract:
A beverage container has a straw-dispensing mechanism that is disposed within the container to bring the straw into alignment with the orifice in the top of the container. When the orifice is opened, the straw elevates through the orifice to become accessible to the user. In one embodiment, the straw is attached to a buoyant member which urges the straw into contact with a contoured surface on the can lid. The contoured surface is angled towards the orifice. In a second embodiment, the straw engages a floating member which is urged against the lid of the container. When the container is opened by deflecting a closure tab into the container, the closure tab engages a cam surface on the floating member and imparts rotational motion to the floating member. The floating member rotates until the straw is aligned with the open orifice and a buoyant member associate with on the straw elevates the straw through the orifice.

Appl. No.:
8/992654
Inventors:
Peter F. Murphy - Grosse Pointe MI
Stephen W. Cornell - Naperville IL
Jon Taylor - Chicago IL
David C. Brown - Chicago IL
Doug Brewer - Chicago IL
Assignee:
The PopStraw Company - Roseville MI
International Classification:

In a second embodiment, the straw engages a floating member which is urged against the lid of the container. In a third embodiment, a buoyant member is integrally formed with the straw and is disposed orthogonally within the body of the can. In a fourth embodiment, the floating member includes a surface treated for facilitating the nucleation of CO. sub. 2 thereon. In a fifth embodiment, the floating member is provided with a skirt for entrapping a head space gas bubble under the floating member. In a sixth embodiment, the floating member reacts to a change in pressure to disengage from the container wall.

Beverage Container With Self-Contained Drinking Straw

US Patent:
6193101, Feb 27, 2001
Filed:
Feb 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/503514
Inventors:
Peter F. Murphy - Grosse Pointe MI
Doug Brewer - Chicago IL
Dave Brown - Chicago IL
James H. Kurtz - Grosse Pointe Farms MI
Jon Taylor - Chicago IL
Paul Doczy - Chicago IL
Assignee:
The PopStraw Company, LLC - Roseville MI
International Classification:
A47G 2118
US Classification:
220706
Abstract:
A beverage container has a straw-dispensing mechanism that is disposed within the container and is responsive to appropriate manipulation of the container to bring the straw into alignment with the orifice in the top end of the container. In one embodiment, the straw is supported by a weighted member that responds to the manipulation of the container to move the straw. A buoyant member is attached to the straw to elevate the straw through the orifice when the straw is aligned with the orifice. Several alternative embodiments of the invention incorporating the weighted member are disclosed. In another embodiment, the straw is supported by a buoyant member that responds to the manipulation of the container to move the straw. The buoyant member is attached to the straw to elevate the straw through the orifice when the straw is aligned with the orifice as well as to align the straw with the orifice due to the manipulation of the can.

Abstract:
A dispensing valve assembly for dispensing a fluid product and preventing air from being drawn into the fluid product through the valve includes a flexible diaphragm valve (10, 50, 100) and a valve seat insert (12, 58, 102). The flexible diaphragm valve flexes from a concave closed position to a convex open position in which fluid product is dispensed through a dispensing opening (26, 56, 116) in the diaphragm. The valve seat insert is positioned adjacent an inside surface of the diaphragm valve in its closed position to prevent the valve from buckling inward and prevent air from passing into the fluid product through the valve.
