Process For The Production Of 1,1,1-Trifluoroethane

US Patent:
5639924, Jun 17, 1997
Filed:
Nov 29, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/346489
Inventors:
Maher Yousef Elsheikh - Wayne PA
Michael Sheppard Bolmer - Collegeville PA
Jean Pierre Schirmann - Paris, FR
John Aloysius Wismer - Washington Crossing PA
Wayne E. Brooks - Paducah KY
Assignee:
Elf Atochem North America, Inc. - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C07C 1908
US Classification:
570168
Abstract:
Process for synthesizing 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (143a) in the gaseous phase by reacting 1,1-defluoro-1-chloroethane in gaseous phase in the presence of a Cr catalyst. The process may be run isothermally or adiabatically, without co-feeding air or other oxygen containing gas, in the presence or absence of a Ni, Co, Zn or Mn cocatalyst for the Cr catalyst. The catalyst may be unsupported or supported with a support preferably selected from activated carbon, alumina and fluorided alumina. The formation of olefin byproduct can be kept to less than 10 ppm in accordance with the process of the invention.

Process For The Manufacture Of Hydrochlorofluoroolefins

US Patent:
8642819, Feb 4, 2014
Filed:
Nov 12, 2009
Appl. No.:
13/127817
Inventors:
Maher Y. Elsheikh - Wayne PA, US
Philippe Bonnet - Lyons, FR
John A. Wismer - Washington Crossing PA, US
Assignee:
Arkema Inc. - King of Prussia PA
International Classification:
C07C 19/08
US Classification:
570170, 570151
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for the manufacture of trans 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (E-1233zd). The first step of the process comprises the fluorination of 1,1,3,3-tetrachlororopropene (1230za, CCh═CH—CHCh) and/or 1,1,1,3,3-pentaachloropropane (240fa) to a mixture of cis 1233zd (Z-1233zd) and trans 1233zd (E-1233zd). The second step of the process comprises a separation of the mixture formed in the first step to isolate cis 1233zd (Z-1233zd) from the mixture. The third step of the process comprises isomerization of cis 1233zd (Z-1233zd) to trans 1233zd (E-1233zd).

Adiabatic Hydrofluorination Of Hydrochlorofluorocarbons

US Patent:
5600038, Feb 4, 1997
Filed:
Mar 24, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/410483
Inventors:
John A. Wismer - Washington Crossing PA
Maher Y. Elsheikh - Wayne PA
Michael S. Bolmer - Collegeville PA
Jean P. Schirmann - Paris, FR
Assignee:
Elf Atochem North America, Inc. - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C07C 1708
US Classification:
570166
Abstract:
Process for adiabatically hydrofluorinating hydrochlorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons in the gaseous phase in the presence of a catalyst that is active at the initial reaction temperature and remains highly selective at the maximum reaction temperature, e. g. , a Cr catalyst. The molar ratio of HF to starting compound is at least about 2. 5:1. The initial reaction temperature is selected such that the HF in the feed is partially associated but not completely (HF). sub. 6. The catalyst may be unsupported or supported.

US Patent:
8642818, Feb 4, 2014
Filed:
Nov 12, 2009
Appl. No.:
13/127615
Inventors:
Maher Y. Elsheikh - Wayne PA, US
Philippe Bonnet - Lyons, FR
John A. Wismer - Washington Crossing PA, US
Assignee:
Arkema Inc. - King of Prussia PA
International Classification:
C07C 17/20
US Classification:
570170, 570151
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for manufacturing 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoropropene (1234yf, CF—CF═CH) from 1,1,3,3-tetrachlororopropene (1230za, CCl═CH—CHCl) and/or 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane (240fa, CClCHCHCl).
