Process For The Production Of Cold-Setting Flexible Polyurethane Foams With Excellent Damping Properties

US Patent:
5063253, Nov 5, 1991
Filed:
Mar 30, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/502346
Inventors:
Peter Gansen - Cologne, DE
Rudi Wolfgramm - Leverkusen, DE
Klaus D. Wolf - Cologne, DE
John J. Lindsey - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Bayer Aktiengesellschaft - Leverkusen
Mobay Corporation - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C08G 1800
US Classification:
521159
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the production of cold-setting flexible polyurethane foam useful for damping sound comprising reacting a polyisocyanate in the presence of water with (a) at least one polyether having an OH number of from 20 to 60 and containing at least two OH groups, wherein said polyether is based on 75 to 95% by weight propylene oxide and 5 to 25% by weight ethylene oxide; (b) a polyether or polyester having an OH number of from 150 to 400 and containing at least two OH groups; and (c) a polyether different from components (a) and (b) having an OH number of from 20 to 200 and containing at least two OH groups, wherein said polyether is based on propylene oxide and ethylene oxide and has an ethylene oxide content above 50% by weight based on the total amount of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide.

Process For The Production Of Cushions Made Of Foam Which Are Provided With Textile Covers

US Patent:
4895686, Jan 23, 1990
Filed:
Dec 1, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/278624
Inventors:
Volker Onnenberg - Drabenderhoehe, DE
Ralf Busch - Cologne, DE
John Lindsey - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Bayer Aktiengesellschaft - Bayerwerk
International Classification:
B29C 6722, B29C 5110
US Classification:
264 466
Abstract:
A process for the production of foam cushions having textile covers by inserting a textile cover into a mold cavity having gates which project into the mold cavity, initially preforming the textile cover by applying a vacuum through holes in the mold cavity such that the textile cover conforms to the contour on both sides of the gates, clamping the textile cover against the gates, optionally further positioning the textile cover such that it conforms to the contours of both the gates and the mold cavity, releasing the clamps and introducing a foam-forming reaction mixture into the mold cavity. The present invention is also directed to a form tool having gates, means for applying a vacuum through holes in the mold cavity in gates and clamping means for clamping the mold cover to the gates.

Expandable Non-Sagging Polyurethane Compositions

US Patent:
5166303, Nov 24, 1992
Filed:
Apr 19, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/513466
Inventors:
Peter H. Markusch - McMurray PA
Jeffrey F. Dormish - Pittsburgh PA
Hans G. Schmelzer - Pittsburgh PA
John J. Lindsey - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
Miles Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C08G 1830, C08G 1848
US Classification:
528 76
Abstract:
The present invention is directed an expandable, non-sagging polyurethane composition prepared by mixing: a liquid polysocyanate with a liquid isocyanate reactive mixture. The isocyanate reactive mixture comprises i) one or more hydroxyl group containing compounds containing from 2 to 8 hydroxyl groups and having molecular weights of from about 1000 to about 6000, ii) one or more low molecular weight diols or triols having hydroxyl equivalent weights of about 200 or less, iii) one or more organic di- or polyamines, and iv) a relatively small amount of water.
