Abstract:
A pair of concentric cylindrical members are arranged for relative sliding movement with the lower end of the inner member being formed with outwardly projecting flexible blades. The blades are adapted to displace rubber guard elements covering a sink opening when the pair of members are received in a disposal unit, or in a sink opening without a disposal unit. The flexible blades are normally held against their outward projection when contained within the outer member, but upon sliding movement of the inner member axially relative to the outer member, will flex radially outward so as to maximumly displace the rubber guards. The resulting displacement establishes an improved unobstructed central passageway in communication with the disposal unit grinding hopper, whereby undesired foreign matter therein may be withdrawn with the use of elongated, slenderized tongs. Optionally, lights may be supported on preferably lower portions of the cylindrical members for improved grinding hopper illumination; however, such lights can be emitted due to the maximized degree of rubber guard displacement.

Abstract:
Disclosed are apparatus and corresponding methodology for providing a blower attachment for a handheld drill. The blower attachment is configured to be secured over the chuck end of a drill and provides a drive shaft driven blower that may be conveniently employed to provide additional combustion air to an incipient fire. The drive shaft is secured in the drill chuck in a manner identical to that employed to secure ordinary drill bits. The blower housing may be constructed at least in part of elastomeric material to assist in attachment of the housing to the drill and to provide flexibility for air direction. An air exit port for the blower housing may be formed of heat resistant material.

Abstract:
An annular member received in a disposal unit displaces rubber guard members covering the sink opening while establishing an unobstructed central passageway in communication with the grinding hopper of the disposal unit. Lights supported on a lower portion of the annular member illuminate the interior of the disposal unit, which interior is accessed through the annular member central passageway by elongated and slenderized tongs for grasping and removing undesired foreign matter within the disposal unit.

Abstract:
A receiver for specimen slices, produced by slicing a tissue sample in a cryogenic microtome, includes an upper member pivotably attached to a lower member and forming a space therebetween for receipt of the specimen slices. Such receipt prevents curling and rolling of the slices, and facilitates easy transfer of the slices to an examination slide. The receiver is adapted to be pivotably and adjustably attached to the microtome, whereby it can be selectively pivoted away from the specimen slice receiving position, or otherwise adjusted for optimized tissue slice reception and storage.

Abstract:
This invention relates to an instrument of a type known variously a a biopsy needle or cannula and used to gather tissue, and particularly soft tissue such as bone marrow, from living persons or animals for pathological study. The instrument retains a gathered tissue specimen by closing the end of a hollow member while the member is in the gathering position, and more particularly by deforming a flexible portion of the member. A pair of members are employed, one moving within the other. By a particular cooperation between the members, a flexible portion of the inner member is displaced or deformed to occlude an open, tissue receiving end thereof and thereby capture tissue and retain it against loss on removal of the instrument from the body of tissue into which it has been thrust.
