Solar Energy Collector And Transfer Apparatus

US Patent:
4211211, Jul 8, 1980
Filed:
Mar 16, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/887358
Inventors:
Gerald P. Toomey - Warfordsburg PA
John L. Grove - Greencastle PA
John R. Fries - Meadowbrook PA
Assignee:
JLG Industries, Inc. - McConnellsburg PA
International Classification:
F24J 302
US Classification:
126439
Abstract:
For use with or without multi-axis orientation means, a solar energy collector and transfer apparatus features tandemly arranged solar energy concentrators intervened by energy absorber and transfer units in a generally planar unitized array with back reflectors to energize the side of the apparatus away from the sun. In a practical embodiment, the tandem energy concentrators are parabolically curved reflectors fore and aft of energy absorbing and transfer tubes which are disposed at the exit apertures of the reflectors or field focuses. A simplified fluid transport system is embodied in the apparatus together with efficient and economical supporting structure for the energy concentrators and associated absorber and transfer units.

Aerial Lift Platform Apparatus With Capacity Indicator

US Patent:
4326601, Apr 27, 1982
Filed:
May 30, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/154758
Inventors:
John L. Grove - Greencastle PA
Frederick W. Kuhne - Willow Hill PA
Assignee:
JLG Industries, Inc. - McConnellsburg PA
International Classification:
G01D 2100, B66C 1314, B66F 1104
US Classification:
182 2
Abstract:
A workman's lift platform apparatus has a vertically swingable and extensible boom with a workman's platform at the outer end. A color coding indicating the amount of boom extension is provided on the fly section of the boom, visible to the workman in the platform, and an indicator plate having corresponding color coding is provided adjacent the controls on the platform. A Bowden cable is connected to the indicator plate and the fly section, to move the indicator plate proportionately to the angle of the boom to the horizontal.

Aerial Lift Platform With Extendable Wheels

US Patent:
4039094, Aug 2, 1977
Filed:
Dec 23, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/643871
Inventors:
John Landis Grove - Greencastle PA
Assignee:
Fulton Industries, Inc. - McConnellsburg PA
International Classification:
E02F 370
US Classification:
214132
Abstract:
An aerial lift platform apparatus has a wheeled chassis, a turret on the chassis and a boom pivoted to the turret. The wheels are carried by extendable axles, to provide increased stability. The boom is depressed to raise at least one wheel, to permit its extension and retraction. Preferably, there are four wheels on two axles, and the wheels of each axle are successively raised and then extended or retracted.

Channel And Plate Telescopic Crane Boom

US Patent:
4004695, Jan 25, 1977
Filed:
Apr 16, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/568665
Inventors:
John L. Hockensmith - Chambersburg PA
John L. Grove - Greencastle PA
Assignee:
Fulton Industries, Inc. - McConnellsburg PA
International Classification:
B66C 2304
US Classification:
212144
Abstract:
A telescopic crane boom is provided in which tubular boom sections include a thicker, flat bottom plate and a thinner channel having the free edges of its walls welded to the bottom plate at the lateral edges of the bottom plate. Wear pads for supporting an outer boom section, e. g. , the fly section, are placed on the bottom plate of the adjacent inner section, e. g. , the mid-section, closely adjacent to the vertical walls of the inner section, and underlying the walls of the outer section, to provide substantially columnar support for the walls of the outer section, reduced bottom plate bending forces, and reduced boom width and weight.

Controls For Aerial Lift Platform Apparatus

US Patent:
4331215, May 25, 1982
Filed:
Feb 12, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/120882
Inventors:
John L. Grove - Greencastle PA
Ernest J. Merz - Chambersburg PA
Charles W. Walters - Waynesboro PA
Assignee:
JLG Industries, Inc. - McConnellsburg PA
International Classification:
B66F 1104, G05G 100
US Classification:
182 2
Abstract:
Controls for an aerial lift platform apparatus which has a steerable mobile chassis, a rotatable upper works, and an extensible boom pivoted on the upper works for luffing movement. The controls are grouped to provide a first group of control members in physical proximity to each other for controlling upper works movement and a second group of control members for controlling movement of the chassis. Each of these control members is mounted for movement substantially to simulate the movement which is controlled. A third group of control members is for controlling the engine, and are in physical proximity to each other. The control members are mounted on a control console having near-horizontal and near-vertical surfaces from which the control members extend, the vehicle control member for drive and steering extending upwardly from the near-horizontal surface.
