Weight Lifting Exercise Device

US Patent:
4531727, Jul 30, 1985
Filed:
Jul 18, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/170106
Inventors:
John H. Pitre - Honolulu HI
Assignee:
Queststar - Eugene OR
International Classification:
A63B 2106
US Classification:
272117
Abstract:
An exercise device has an outer tank containing a supply of liquid and an inner container with mechanism for receiving a portion of the liquid from the tank when the container is in a first position and mechanism for discharging the liquid from the container at a controlled rate when in a second position. The inner container is connected to an elongated member that extends out of the tank and may be pulled upon by the user. A conduit may supply liquid under pressure selectively to the liquid container, in response to user demand as indicated by activation of a switch, and the liquid may then drain from the container through the same or a different conduit, to the original reservoir or a drain; and in this embodiment the container need not enter the tank or reservoir. A pair of spreadable arms may be hinged or pivoted to the device and connected via mechanical linkage or cable to the weight container for biasing the arms into separated position for push-up exercises, and an overhead T-bar may provide support for laterally spaced hand pulls suited for chest exercises.

System And Method For Generating Electricity Using Grid Of Wind And Water Energy Capture Devices

US Patent:
2010023, Sep 16, 2010
Filed:
Mar 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/659442
Inventors:
John Pitre - Honolulu HI, US
Stuart Huang - Honolulu HI, US
Assignee:
Natural Power Concepts, Inc. - Honolulu HI
International Classification:
F03B 13/14, F03D 9/00, H02J 1/10, F01D 25/28
US Classification:
290 42, 290 55, 307 72, 415 7
Abstract:
A system for maintaining buoyant, energy-capture devices in general relative position in water in the presence of surface waves allows heeling of the energy capture devices while preventing collision. The system includes a grid of structural members that resists compression while permitting limited relative surface displacement between the first and second energy-capture devices. The structural members may be partially compressible and provide a restoring force, and they may allow heeling. Electricity from wave energy capture devices is combined in a way that smoothes variations inherent in wave action. Electricity from wind energy capture devices is combined with energy from wave energy capture devices for transmission to shore.

Decorative Wind Turbine Having Flame-Like Appearance

US Patent:
2010014, Jun 10, 2010
Filed:
Aug 21, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/461718
Inventors:
John Pitre - Honolulu HI, US
Assignee:
Natural Power Concepts, Inc. - Honolulu HI
International Classification:
F03D 9/00, F03D 3/06, F03D 11/00
US Classification:
290 55, 416223 R, 416146 R
Abstract:
A wind turbine has a visual envelope suggestive of a flame. The turbine has a rotor adapted to rotate about an axis of rotation that is perpendicular to a direction of a prevailing wind. The visual envelope is curvilinear, generally wider toward the root end, and narrower near the tip. A power take off device converts rotation of the rotor into a useful and preferably transmissible form of energy.

Folding Blade Turbine

US Patent:
2010014, Jun 10, 2010
Filed:
Aug 21, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/461716
Inventors:
John Pitre - Honolulu HI, US
Assignee:
Natural Power Concepts, Inc. - Honolulu HI
International Classification:
F03D 7/02, F03D 11/04, F03B 13/14, F03B 3/14
US Classification:
416 85, 416147
Abstract:
A turbine has airfoils that are configured to extract work from a prevailing fluid flow. An actuator causes the airfoils to pivot or fold between a first position with their spans substantially normal to the flow direction and a second position with their spans substantially parallel to the flow direction, or any position in between. The variable geometry allows the airfoils to be sized for relatively light winds and to remain operational in relatively high winds without damage. Under extreme conditions the airfoils may be folded completely for safety.

Apparatus For Generating Electricity From Flowing Fluid Using Generally Prolate Turbine

US Patent:
2010014, Jun 17, 2010
Filed:
Aug 21, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/461715
Inventors:
John Pitre - Honolulu HI, US
Assignee:
Natural Power Concepts, Inc. - Honolulu HI
International Classification:
F03B 13/00
US Classification:
290 54
Abstract:
An apparatus for generating electricity from a moving liquid has a generally oblate casing and a generally helicoid working member adapted to convert energy of a flowing fluid into rotation of the casing. A rotor-like element of an electrical generator is coupled to the rotating casing. A stator like element of an electrical generator is coupled to a stabilizing element. The stabilizing element may be a fin, a counter-rotating turbine, or another structure that develops torque from the moving liquid.
