Method And Instrumentation For Attaching Dentures

US Patent:
6672870, Jan 6, 2004
Filed:
Mar 20, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/812734
Inventors:
John G. Knapp - Livonia MI 48152
International Classification:
A61C 302
US Classification:
433 76, 433 75, 606 96
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for mounting a dental prosthesis to an upper or lower jaw of a patient. The apparatus includes a jig bushing and a base plate. The jig bushing has a plurality of apertures therethrough for guiding the travel of a drill bit for forming bores in the jaw of the patient. The base plate is immovably associated with the jig bushing and is formed to correspond to the shape of the jaw. A drill bit adaptor is provided for drilling bores in the ridge of the patient to an adjustable predetermined depth. The drill bit adaptor includes a plurality of annular recesses along a longitudinal length of the elongate body for receiving an E-ring. The body of the drill bit adaptor can be inserted into an aperture of the jig bushing until the E-ring presses against the jig bushing. Implants can be screwed into bores. Transmucosal adaptors having sloped ends can be added to each implant.

Mandibular Staple Bone Plate

US Patent:
4906189, Mar 6, 1990
Filed:
Jun 17, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/208748
Inventors:
John G. Knapp - Livonia MI
International Classification:
A61C 800
US Classification:
433173
Abstract:
A mandibular staple bone plate including a support plate having mounting posts attached thereto which extend through the lower jawbone onto which standardized mounting means, embedded within a denture, may be mounted. The mounting means carried thereon engage the top of the mounting posts which extend through the jaw and into the mouth. Additionally, a gauge plate, which may be placed over the mounting posts in a fashion similar to the appliance plate, is used to determine the proper length for the mounting posts prior to mounting the appliance plate on the posts.
