Curb Shoe Assembly For Shoulder Grading

US Patent:
2008017, Jul 24, 2008
Filed:
Dec 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/004809
Inventors:
John L. Davis - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
E02F 3/815, E02F 9/00
US Classification:
172 26, 172239, 37448, 172783
Abstract:
A curb shoe assembly for street grading and curb formation is provided. The curb shoe assembly includes a channel member having a front side, a back side, a bottom side and a central trough sized for receiving the bottom edge of a construction vehicle mow blade. The curb shoe further includes a grading blade which extends downward from the bottom side of the channel member. The grading blade includes a laterally extending portion and an angled portion. The angled portion includes a vertically extending edge for confronting a curb shoulder. Preferably, the angled portion is removable for replacement due to damage. The curb shoe includes a pair of straps for affixing the curb shoe's channel member to a mow blade. In addition, the curb shoe assembly includes a shoe having a horizontally extending plate. The horizontally extending plate is positioned adjacent to the grading blade so as to rest upon a street curb during operation. The shoe includes vertically extending rods sized and positioned to slidably extend into collars affixed to the front and rear sides of the channel member. Since the shoe can be moved upwardly or downwardly, the height of the grading blade's vertically extending edge can be adjusted for the formation of curbs of different heights. The curb shoe assembly includes one or more shoe spacers insertable and removable between the channel member's bottom side and the shoe's planar plate for maintaining the shoe in proper position.

Sheet Metal Web Stiffener And Chord Nailing Restrictor For Wooden I-Joist

US Patent:
2007025, Nov 8, 2007
Filed:
May 3, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/381441
Inventors:
John Davis - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
E04C 3/30
US Classification:
052729400
Abstract:
A monolithic sheet metal chord nailing restricting and web stiffening device features a chord plate combined with a web stiffening structure configured for lateral attachment to the web of a wooden I-joist. The chord plate is positioned on the bottom of the web stiffening structure and features a nail restricting hole having a diameter that corresponds to a predetermined diameter of a chord nail as defined by wooden I-joist manufacturers. The web stiffening structure has a web plate for attachment to the web and a buckling opposing web stiffening rib. Once the web stiffening structure is attached to the web above the bearing rest the nail restricting hole restricts chord nailing position and nail shaft diameter to manufacturer defined limits. Two devices may be combined by a web front bridge plate for simultaneous attachment of two opposite devices along an I-joist end.

Buckling Opposing Support For I-Joist

US Patent:
7293394, Nov 13, 2007
Filed:
Apr 8, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/410505
Inventors:
John D. Davis - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
E04C 3/12
US Classification:
527292, 527294, 527295, 527291, 526501, 527372
Abstract:
A support device is provided for the preferred application of buckling opposing support of an I-joist having an erroneously cut hole in its web portion. The support device may have an approximate U-shape with two substantially parallel bridging structures combined by a structure that combines the bridging structures and provides an alignment reference with the chords. In the case where an erroneously cut hole is identified, the support device may be laterally attached to the I-joist such that both bridging structures flank the erroneously cut hole. Once the bridging structures are attached to the web, the bridging structures define with the remainder of the web a buckling opposing interface. The support structure is preferably monolithically fabricated from sheet metal and scaled in conjunction with dimensional standards of commercially available I-joists.

Laser Marking Device For Serial I-Joist Cutouts

US Patent:
7194812, Mar 27, 2007
Filed:
Apr 13, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/106056
Inventors:
John D. Davis - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
G01C 15/00
US Classification:
33286, 33412, 33529
Abstract:
A laser marking device includes a fixture for temporarily attaching the device in an initial cutout of a number of serial cutouts to be fabricated in adjacent assembled I-joists. Combined with the fixture is an angle gage that provides angular positioning of a marking laser. The angle gage is configured to hold the laser with its beam coinciding with the marking origin of the initial cutout, which in case of circular cutout may be the reference center at which the pilot drill of the hole saw is centered at the begin of the cutout operation. The marker laser may be horizontally and/or vertically oriented together with an eventual alignment laser and an eventual target marker temporarily affixed on the I-joist where a final reference point is determined for an axial orientation of the cutouts across the I-joists.
