Subpurlin And Attachment Assembly

US Patent:
4676042, Jun 30, 1987
Filed:
Nov 1, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/794076
Inventors:
John R. Bell - Germantown TN
Robert E. Hodges - Memphis TN
Harold E. Martin - LaGrange GA
Assignee:
AMCA International Corporation - Hanover NH
International Classification:
E04D 100
US Classification:
52543
Abstract:
A subpurlin (10) is provided for a building assembly having a plurality of overhead structural members (50), an insulating layer (62) and a plurality of overlapping roof panels (56). The subpurlins (10) support and space the roof panels (56) without compressing the insulating layer (62). Connector assemblies (30) secure the subpurlins (10) on the structural members (50) while permitting differential thermal movements between the roof panels (56) and the structural members (50). The connector assemblies (30) have ferrules (32) which slidingly engage slots (16) in the subpurlins (10). Washers (34) are fastened to the structural members (50) through the ferrules (32) during subpurlin (10) installation.

Insulated Roofing Structure

US Patent:
4651489, Mar 24, 1987
Filed:
Oct 24, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/544713
Inventors:
Robert E. Hodges - Memphis TN
John R. Bell - Germantown TN
Peter E. Helgesen - Germantown TN
Assignee:
AMCA International - Bowling Green KY
International Classification:
E04B 500
US Classification:
52409
Abstract:
An insulated roof structure includes insulating thermal elements which space attachment clips from an underlying purlin and introduce substantial thermal resistance above the purlin. Each insulating element includes a metal cap and an insulating body portion. The cap is enlarged at one end to overlappingly receive the end of an adjacent insulating block. And, the cap has a positioning device that aids accurate positioning of the overlying roof panels.

Roof Ridge Structure And System

US Patent:
4420913, Dec 20, 1983
Filed:
Jul 20, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/284970
Inventors:
Gene M. Long - Houston TX
Terry E. DeWitt - Memphis TN
John R. Bell - Germantown TN
Assignee:
AMCA International
International Classification:
E04B 700
US Classification:
52 57
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for covering the ridge or peak of a metalroof system is disclosed. After the metal roofing panels are set in place on the sloping surfaces of the roof and seamed together, mating halves of a ridge panel are positioned along the ridge and parallel thereto. The mating halves have cut-outs corresponding to the rib seams of the roofing panels, the cut-outs each being covered by a seam cap. After the ridge panel halves are secured to the roofing panels, the interlocking joint between them is folded over and permanently seamed together. Finally, the areas at the ends of the ridge adjacent the rakes of the building are covered by filler panels. The filler panels have cut-outs corresponding to the rib seam of the ridge panel, and the cut-outs are similarly covered by seam caps.
