Thioglycerol Derivatives And Their Use In Polysulfide Compositions For Optical Material

US Patent:
6066758, May 23, 2000
Filed:
Sep 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/388518
Inventors:
Richard P. Woodbury - Amherst NH
John B. Stallman - Amherst NH
George F. Winterson - Lowell MA
Kenneth L. Avery - Merrimack NH
Assignee:
Hampshire Chemical Corp. - Lexington MA
International Classification:
C07C32100
US Classification:
560154
Abstract:
Novel thioglycerol derivatives, processes for their manufacture, and optical materials made from such compounds. The thioglycerol derivatives have high concentrations of sulfur relative to compounds conventionally used for optical materials, and thus exhibit high refractive indices without sacrificing processability.

Preparation Of Acylated .Alpha.-Amino Carboxylic Acid Amides

US Patent:
5763661, Jun 9, 1998
Filed:
Jan 17, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/783924
Inventors:
John B. Stallman - Amherst NH
Assignee:
Hampshire Chemical Corp. - Lexington MA
International Classification:
C07C23106
US Classification:
564124
Abstract:
A method of preparing acylated. alpha. -amino carboxylic acid amides directly from amino nitriles in high yield and purity. The method involves acylating the amino nitrile with an acyl halide under Schotten-Baumann conditions, and hydrolyzing the resulting nitrile to the amide. The resulting acylated amino carboxylic acid amide precipitates and can be isolated by filtration in high purity.
