Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Composition, Tape And Diaper Closure System

US Patent:
5112889, May 12, 1992
Filed:
Feb 15, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/657135
Inventors:
John A. Miller - Woodbury MN
Egbert A. von Jakusch - Hilden, DE
Assignee:
Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
C08L 9304
US Classification:
524 77
Abstract:
Pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions and an improved refastenable tape closure system comprising a release tape and a fastening tape wherein the fastening tape has a balance of properties such that the tape exhibits a maximum in the peel force between peel rates of 10 cm. /minute and 400 cm. /minute when peeled from a polyolefin substrate as found in disposable diaper back sheets are disclosed. The adhesive of the fastening tape comprises a specific range of compositions including an elastomeric component based on an A-B-A block copolymer wherein the A blocks are derived from styrene or alphamethylstyrene and the B block are derived from isoprene, butadiene, or hydrogenated versions of these or an (AB) block copolymer of the same type of composition in another geometry such as a tapered block copolymer or a radial block copolymer, a solid tackifier resin, a liquid tackifier resin, and an end block reinforcing resin.

Method And Apparatus For Determining The Source And Nature Of An Error Within A Computer System

US Patent:
5511164, Apr 23, 1996
Filed:
Mar 1, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/396952
Inventors:
Terry J. Brunmeier - Shoreview MN
Larry L. Byers - Apple Valley MN
John A. Miller - Shoreview MN
Gary R. Robeck - Albertville MN
Assignee:
Unisys Corporation - Blue Bell PA
International Classification:
C06F 1100
US Classification:
39518506
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for identify the source and nature of an error, without aborting the operation of the computer system. In one embodiment of the present invention, the source of the error may be a hardware element and the nature of the error may be identified as either fatal or non-fatal. If the nature of the error is considered non-fatal, the present invention may correct the error and continue the operation of the computer system. This may allow detected errors to be handled immediately after they occur, rather than aborting the operation of the computer system and waiting for a support controller or the like to analyze the error. This may significantly enhance the reliability and performance of a corresponding computer system. This may be especially important during time critical operations. Further, since the operation of the computer system may be aborted a fewer number of times, the present invention may minimize the amount of data loss.

International Classification:
A61F 1315
US Classification:
6043851
Abstract:
A disposable garment or diaper including a laminate and a hook and loop fastener for fastening together portions of the laminate to secure the diaper to an individual. The fastener includes a loop fastener portion adjacent a first end of the laminate comprising a multiplicity of loops, a pair of flexible elongate polymeric tab assemblies having first end portions attached at opposite sides to the laminate adjacent a second end of the laminate and having distal end portions unattached to the laminate, and hook fastener portions at the distal end portions of the tab assemblies comprising a plurality of projecting hook members adapted to make releasable engagement with the loops. The tab assemblies include a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive on the distal end portions adjacent the hook fastener portion which can, after the diaper has been soiled and removed from the individual, be used for securing the soiled diaper in a rolled or folded condition surrounding the soiled portion of the diaper to facilitate its disposal by engagement of the layer of pressure sensitive adhesive with the laminate.

Repositionable Adhesive Tape

US Patent:
5378536, Jan 3, 1995
Filed:
Apr 27, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/874717
Inventors:
John A. Miller - Woodbury MN
George J. Clements - Afton MN
Assignee:
Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
C09J 702
US Classification:
428355
Abstract:
An adhesive of certain elastomeric block copolymers and tackifying materials can be hot-melt coated onto a flexible backing to provide an adhesive tape, two pieces of which can bond to each other to have excellent resistance to shear forces but can be easily peeled apart, even after prolonged periods of time. The adhesive can be low-tack or tack-free. When the novel adhesive is tacky, it can bind sheets into a note pad from which individual sheets can be removed, temporarily adhered to paper and other substrates, and later cleanly removed, even after prolonged contact.

Method And Apparatus For Performing System Resource Partitioning

US Patent:
5574914, Nov 12, 1996
Filed:
Sep 8, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/302381
Inventors:
Peter J. Hancock - White Bear Lake MN
Ian R. Hepburn - Minnetonka MN
Lonny R. Lebahn - Saint Paul MN
Hans C. Mikkelsen - Afton MN
John A. Miller - Shoreview MN
Robert T. Sandelands - Stillwater MN
James F. Torgerson - Andover MN
Assignee:
Unisys Corporation - Blue Bell PA
International Classification:
G06F 900
US Classification:
395650
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for managing a number of data processing resources to produce one or more independent and separate data processing partitions. Each partition is defined as a proper subset of the total inventory of available data processing resources. Each partition is controlled by a system control facility. All system control facilities communicate with a site configuration management system, which defines and redefines the composition of each partition. The site configuration management system can move resources from one partition to another as required. Preferably, the system control facilities and the site configuration management system are industry standard personal computers which communicate via a local area network.

Disposable Diaper With Improved Fastener Attachment

US Patent:
4973326, Nov 27, 1990
Filed:
Nov 30, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/126746
Inventors:
Leigh E. Wood - Woodbury MN
John A. Miller - Woodbury MN
Alan J. Sipinen - Maplewood MN
Susan K. Nestegard - Woodbury MN
Assignee:
Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company - Saint Paul MN
International Classification:
A61F 1316
US Classification:
604391
Abstract:
A disposable garment or diaper having a fastener including fastener portions adapted for releasably mechanically engaging each other; and a bonding layer of room-temperature non-tacky thermoplastic material adhering one of the fastener portions to a thin polyolefin layer of the garment and being bonded to that polyolefin layer under heat and pressure that leaves the polyolefin layer substantially undeformed. The bonding layer holds the fastener portion to the polyolefin film with greater force than that which is required to separate the engaged fastener so that the fastener may be repetitively closed and opened.
