Plug Valve With Improved Plastic Sleeve

US Patent:
4494730, Jan 22, 1985
Filed:
Nov 1, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/437956
Inventors:
John A. George - Cincinnati OH
Assignee:
Xomox Corporation - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
F16K 502
US Classification:
251309
Abstract:
A plug valve and method of making same are provided wherein the valve has an outer housing and a flow passage extending through the housing and including an inlet and an outlet interconnected by a bore therebetween. A plastic sleeve is disposed within the housing and lines the bore and such sleeve has a pair of aligned ports therein which are aligned with the inlet and outlet. A rotatable plug is disposed within the sleeve and such plug has an opening therethrough which is adapted to be rotated in and out of registry with the inlet and outlet. The sleeve has substantially rigid reinforcing means embedded therein around its ports which serve the multiple purpose of preventing cold flow of the sleeve adjoining the ports, minimizing fluid erosion of portions of the sleeve adjoining the ports, and increasing the rigidity of the sleeve around each of the ports whereby with fluid flow through the valve at high velocity with the plug rotated to a partially closed position any tendency for the plastic sleeve to be partially moved into the flow passage is substantially eliminated.

Plug Valve With Removable Lip Insert Means

US Patent:
4478388, Oct 23, 1984
Filed:
Nov 1, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/438039
Inventors:
John A. George - Cincinnati OH
Assignee:
Xomox Corporation - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
F16K 502
US Classification:
251309
Abstract:
A plug valve and method of making same are provided wherein such valve has lip inserts removably installed between an outer housing of the valve and diametrically opposed ports in a plastic sleeve which serves as a liner for the inside surface of the outer housing. The ports are aligned in a flow passage through the valve and a rotatable plug member is rotatably supported within the sleeve. The lip inserts serve the multiple purpose of protecting edge surfaces defining the ports of the sleeve against impingement of fluid flowing through the flow passage, holding the sleeve against rotation, preventing cold flow or extrusion of parts of the plastic sleeve in the flow passage and providing smooth uninterrupted flow of fluid through the valve flow passage.

Stabilized Connector

US Patent:
7938453, May 10, 2011
Filed:
Feb 23, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/380032
Inventors:
John Anthony George - Cincinnati OH, US
Stephen Phillip Frank - Loveland OH, US
Assignee:
Richards Industries, LLC - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
F16L 15/00
US Classification:
285219, 2851431
Abstract:
Tap mounting assemblies for reducing loads on the threaded end portions of a tap. Some exemplary embodiments employ a spring such as Belleville washers to bias apart the tap and a mounting plate, and some embodiments provide visual indication of proper tightening. Some exemplary embodiments allow angular adjustment of a portion of the tap assembly without disturbing the tapered thread engagement of the tap on the mounting surface. Exemplary embodiments may employ a base plate between a jack screw and a mounting surface.

Pressure Regulators

US Patent:
5492146, Feb 20, 1996
Filed:
Feb 16, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/197317
Inventors:
John A. George - Cincinnati OH
Paul R. Ostand - Cincinnati OH
Timothy M. Garrison - Cincinnati OH
Assignee:
Richards Industries, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
G05D 1608
US Classification:
13750541
Abstract:
A sanitary pressure regulator comprises a pressure sensing chamber, downstream of an orifice, has its upper portion defined by a diaphragm. A valve stem, mounted on the diaphragm, extends downwardly through the orifice and has a plug disposed on the upstream side of the orifice. A valve spring, is disposed in a spring housing and acts through a lower spring retainer to yieldingly resist movement of the valve plug to a position which would restrict fluid flow. The spring housing, compression spring and lower retainer form a unit which can be mounted on and detached from a passage housing. The valve stem is mounted on the diaphragm by a nut which is threaded onto a portion of the stem which projects above the diaphragm. Provision is made to lock the valve stem in an open position to facilitate the use of high pressure fluid in cleaning the regulator. In an alternate embodiment, the valve stem is axially fixed relative to the lower spring retainer and a disc engages the lower surface of the diaphragm.
