US Classification:
514396, 514403, 514448, 514637
Abstract:
A method for inducing apoptosis or cell death in leukemia cells includes inhibiting the production of nitric oxide (NO) by using a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor. The NOS inhibitor includes a NOS1-specific inhibitor, such as N-[4-(2-{[(3-chlorophenyl)methyl]amino}ethyl)phenyl]-2-thiophenecarboximide dihydrochloride, [N-(1-imino-3-butenyl)-L-ornithine], 7-nitroindazole, 1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)imidazole, 3-bromo-7-nitroindazole, and S-ethyl-N-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)isothiourea HCl.

Nov 9, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/983978
Inventors:
Joe Weinberg - Durham NC, US
Marc Levesque - Durham NC, US
Dipak Ghosh - Durham NC, US
International Classification:
A61K031/573, A61K031/4172, A61K031/416, A61K031/381, A61K031/198
US Classification:
514171000, 514400000, 514406000, 514447000, 514565000
Abstract:
A method for inducing apoptosis or cell death in leukemia cells includes inhibiting the production of nitric oxide (NO) by using a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, or the actions of NO by a NO quencher/scavenger. The NOS inhibitor includes a NOS1-specific inhibitor, such as N-[4-(2-{[(3-chlorophenyl)methyl]amino}ethyl)phenyl]-2-thiophenecarboximide dihydrochloride, [N-(1-imino-3-butenyl)-L-ornithine], 7-nitroindazole, or 1-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)imidazole. The examples of NO quencher/scavenger include 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide and hydroxocobalamin.

Methods Of Inhibiting Nitric Oxide Synthase Using Corrin Derivatives

US Patent:
2008015, Jun 26, 2008
Filed:
Sep 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/904747
Inventors:
Joe Brice Weinberg - Durham NC, US
Dipak Kumar Ghosh - Durham NC, US
International Classification:
A61K 31/555, A61P 43/00
US Classification:
514186
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods of inhibiting nitric oxide synthase (NOS) using corrin derivatives that bind NOS but do not bind NO. It also provides methods of inhibiting NOS in vivo by administering corrin derivatives, and methods of treating diseases and medical conditions using this inhibition of NOS.

Use Of Polymer D-Lactic Acid (Pdla) Or Equivalents Thereof To Inhibit Growth Of Cancer Cells And Diagnose Cancers

US Patent:
2012019, Aug 2, 2012
Filed:
Jan 27, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/360567
Inventors:
Joel S. Goldberg - Durham NC, US
Joe Brice Weinberg - Durham NC, US
International Classification:
A61K 31/765, A61K 31/225, C08G 63/06, G01N 33/566, A61P 35/00, C12N 5/09, C07C 69/68
US Classification:
424 7837, 435375, 514547, 560180, 435 71, 528361
Abstract:
The invention provides method for sequestering or trapping L-lactate in or near a tumor cell comprising contacting an isolated polymer of D-lactic acid (PDLA) or an equivalent, derivative or analog thereof with the tumor cell so that the PDLA binds L-lactate in or near the cell and thereby sequestering or trapping L-lactate in or near the tumor cells.
