Philosophy:
If a cure is possible, I will strive to maximize a patient's chance to achieve it. If cure is not realistically possible, my goal is to help one through the disease process in a manner that the individual desires, in the most reasonable and ethical fashion, to achieve maximal preservation of quality of life. Chemotherapy sometimes is necessary and helpful; sometimes is not needed. I do not give chemotherapy if it is not warranted or if there is not a reasonable chance it will help. At times, chemotherapy, even though available for a condition, may not be in the best interests for a particular patient in a particular situation, if it will make their life poorly tolerable in an incurable situation. Other forms of treatment for palliation of a disease are best employed in such situations, for the benefit of a patient. I emphasize in such situations preservation of quality of life, rather than quantity.
