Electrical Cable Strain Relief And Electrical Closure

US Patent:
6811441, Nov 2, 2004
Filed:
Apr 17, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/417521
Inventors:
Jeffrey S. Simpson - Mechanicsburg PA
Assignee:
FCI Americas Technology, Inc. - Reno NV
International Classification:
H01R 903
US Classification:
439610, 439464, 439465, 439457
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus for providing a strain relief for use in the assembly of an electrical connector on an end of an electrical conductor having at least an outer braided portion, which may be surrounded by an insulating cover. The methods and apparatus disclosed herein provide a low cost approach for installation using minimal tooling, while providing a precise and robust relief that ensures electrical performance.

Connector Assembly Having A Floatable Module Assembly With A Coupling Member

US Patent:
2014001, Jan 9, 2014
Filed:
Jul 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/544038
Inventors:
Christopher D. Ritter - Hummelstown PA, US
Jeffrey Simpson - Mechanicsburg PA, US
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Berwyn PA
International Classification:
H01R 13/60
US Classification:
439533
Abstract:
A connector assembly including a support frame and a module assembly that is movably coupled to the support frame. The module assembly includes first and second connector modules that are positioned adjacent to each other and a coupling member that joins the first and second connector modules. Each of the first and second connector modules is configured to mate with a mating connector along a corresponding mating axis to establish a communicative connection. The coupling member joins the first and second connector modules such that the first and second connector modules move with each other and relative to the support frame. The coupling member permits the first and second connector modules to move relative to each other when the mating connectors engage the first and second connector modules.

Cable Assembly Latch

US Patent:
2002015, Oct 24, 2002
Filed:
Apr 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/838437
Inventors:
Jeffrey Simpson - Mechanicsburg PA, US
International Classification:
H01R013/627
US Classification:
439/357000
Abstract:
A latch assembly for coupling first and second connectors, which are adapted to be held in contiguous relation to one another, the assembly including at least one latching arm having upper and lower portions, the arm extending from the second connector towards the first member and having a catch mechanism on the upper portion adapted to engage the first connector and to retain the first connector to the second connector. Also included is a fulcrum mechanism adapted to allow the latching arm to pivot thereon in a manner whereby when a sufficient force is applied to the lower portion of each latching arm below the fulcrum, the upper portion of the arm deflects in an outward direction to allow unmating of the first and second connectors.

Electrical Connector Configured To Shield Cable-Termination Regions

US Patent:
8475208, Jul 2, 2013
Filed:
Nov 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/301123
Inventors:
Jeffrey Stewart Simpson - Mechanicsburg PA, US
Michael David Herring - Apex NC, US
Arash Behziz - Newbury Park CA, US
Assignee:
Tyco Electronics Corporation - Berwyn PA
International Classification:
H01R 13/66
US Classification:
43960701
Abstract:
An electrical connector including a dielectric body and electrical contacts held by the dielectric body. The electrical contacts have a pair of signal contacts with respective mating ends configured to engage a communication connector and also with respective wire-terminating ends. The wire-terminating ends are located proximate to each other in a cable-termination region and are configured to mechanically and electrically couple to corresponding signal conductors of a cable. The electrical connector also includes a ground shield having a cover extension that extends over the cable-termination region. The cover extension is configured to shield the cable-termination region.

Full Compression Coaxial Cable Assembly

US Patent:
2002005, May 2, 2002
Filed:
Jul 30, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/918041
Inventors:
Jeffrey Simpson - Mechanicsburg PA, US
International Classification:
H01R009/00
US Classification:
174/08800C
Abstract:
In a compression coaxial cable assembly, a housing has a contacting face and a coaxial cable has an end inserted into the housing, a signal conductor, and an outer shield. First and second members are mounted to and electrically coupled to the signal conductor and the outer shield, respectively, and each of the first and second members has a deflectable portion projecting from the housing at the contacting face. Upon coupling the housing to a substrate, the deflectable portions each electrically contact corresponding surfaces on the substrate. Upon urging the housing toward the substrate, the deflectable portions each deflect and withdraw into the housing.
