Diesel Engine Start Assist Apparatus

Diesel Engine Start Assist Apparatus

US Patent:
6286488, Sep 11, 2001
Filed:
Oct 7, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/414464
Inventors:
Jeffrey D. Wisinski - Erie PA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02D 4138, F02N 1708
US Classification:
123481
Abstract:
A start assist device for an engine having a means for supplying fuel to fewer than all of the cylinders of the engine at engine cranking speeds that are less than the speed wherein the fuel injection system provides fuel to all of the cylinders. In one embodiment for a diesel locomotive engine, fuel is supplied to two cylinders beginning at 45 RPM to assist the engine starter in achieving an engine cranking speed of 90 RPM wherein the fuel injection system begins to provide fuel to all of the cylinders.

Method And Apparatus For Operating A Locomotive Engine

Method And Apparatus For Operating A Locomotive Engine

US Patent:
6170452, Jan 9, 2001
Filed:
Oct 7, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/413929
Inventors:
Jeffrey D. Wisinski - Erie PA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02N 1510, F01M 1110
US Classification:
1231794
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for restarting a locomotive engine based on the lubricating oil temperature T. sub. oil at the time of shutdown and an average oil cool down rate R. The average cool down rate R may be a function of the ambient air temperature T. sub. AIR at the time of shut down. The method and apparatus of this invention allows the engine to be shutdown during periods of inactivity to conserve fuel, but prevents the engine from cooling below a predetermined temperature in order to avoid excessive wear in operating limitations upon restart.

Electrical Circuit Disrupter

Electrical Circuit Disrupter

US Patent:
6198056, Mar 6, 2001
Filed:
Oct 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/415713
Inventors:
Jeffrey David Wisinski - Erie PA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
H01H 300
US Classification:
200 17R
Abstract:
A circuit disrupter having a first conductor and a second conductor partially disposed in an enclosure. A connector is biased to an open position by a spring, but is held in an engaged position by a tab to connect first conductor to second conductor. When an operator removes tab, connector moves to the open position, thereby disconnecting first circuit element from second circuit element. Because the operator does not have access to the interior of enclosure, the first and second circuit elements will remain disconnected until appropriate maintenance activity is undertaken. The absence of tab from the circuit disrupter is a signal that such maintenance activity is required.
