Methods And Apparatus To Display A Viewing Region

US Patent:
7701471, Apr 20, 2010
Filed:
Mar 2, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/070651
Inventors:
Jeffrey E. Young - San Jose CA, US
Stefan Cameron - Ottawa, CA
Mark C. Leyden - Oxford Mills, CA
Assignee:
Adobe Systems Incorporated - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G09G 5/00, G06F 3/048
US Classification:
345629, 345684, 345157, 715784, 715785, 715786, 715787, 715788, 715763, 715801, 707102, 382113
Abstract:
An application initiates a display of a first portion of an image in a viewing region of a display screen. Additionally, the application initiates a transparent display of an overflow indicator in a display area of the viewing region to enable viewing through the overflow indicator to corresponding content associated with the image. As its name suggests, the overflow indicator indicates that there is a second portion of the image not currently displayed in the viewing region. This technique of providing the overflow indicator overlaid on the image enhances a user's viewing experience because a display area or region occupied by the overflow indicator (e. g. , a shaded region) enables a user to i) view an unobstructed view of the image beneath the overflow indicator, and ii) identify that a current size of the viewing region only shows a portion of the image rather than the whole image.

Method And Apparatus For Ordering Objects In An Electronic Document

US Patent:
7620886, Nov 17, 2009
Filed:
Mar 1, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/069269
Inventors:
Jeffrey Young - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Adobe Systems, Incorporated - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
715203, 715201, 715243
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for ordering or reordering objects (e. g. , data, content, input objects, controls) within an electronic document. In a set order mode of operation, an operator orders objects by selecting or clicking on them in their desired order. During the set order mode, the apparatus displays a first indicator reflecting the set order mode, and a current index value—the order or position at which the next selected object will be placed. A control mode of operation is activated by engaging a predetermined key or control (e. g. , CTRL key). During control mode, the apparatus displays a second indicator showing that the control mode is active, and the index of a target object (an object identified by a cursor controlled by the operator). The operator can reset the current index to the index of the target object by clicking on the target object while control mode is active.

Virtual Navigator That Produces Virtual Links At Run Time For Identifying Links In An Electronic File

US Patent:
6006236, Dec 21, 1999
Filed:
Dec 22, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/995313
Inventors:
Jeffrey E. Young - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Adobe Systems Incorporated - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707103
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for identifying links in an electronic document provides an electronic file as a data structure having components and having base links that define the structural relationship between the components, traverses the data structure using the base links, and produces a virtual link between two components by recognizing a characteristic shared by the components. The virtual link is identified when needed at run-time. A function may be performed using the components as components are identified.

Keeping Track Of Locations In Electronic Documents

US Patent:
7024622, Apr 4, 2006
Filed:
Nov 26, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/980110
Inventors:
Jeffrey E. Young - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Adobe Systems Incorporated - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/00
US Classification:
715530, 715514
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus that keeps track of locations in an electronic file that is represented as a hierarchical data structure, generate a point dictionary to store points that point to locations, and generate point identifiers to access the points in the point dictionary. Point identifiers are stored by ancillary routines and with components in the electronic file's data structure. The points in the dictionary change as locations in the electronic file change, but the point identifiers do not change. The point identifiers stored with the components in the electronic file's data structure enable the method and the apparatus to retrieve other points in the same component without conducting a search through the point dictionary.

Providing Visual Continuity When Displaying Related Information

US Patent:
6177933, Jan 23, 2001
Filed:
Nov 26, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/977837
Inventors:
Jeffrey E. Young - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Adobe Systems, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 300
US Classification:
345333
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for retaining visual continuity uses techniques that display sets of data on a computer monitor. The sets of data, stored in one or more electronic files, are arranged on separate pages so that corresponding data are positioned at the same location on each page. Corresponding page layouts enable a user to maintain focus on a particular area, for example, an area where a property name and value appear, or an area where a particular template definition and generated text appear. The invention uses visual techniques such as highlighting data to distinguish differences in the data sets. Each page has a tab so that a user can choose the page to display on the computer monitor.
