Apparatus And Method For Dispensing Of Powders

US Patent:
2001001, Aug 23, 2001
Filed:
Apr 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/829533
Inventors:
Christopher Gaylo - Princeton Junction NJ, US
Ireneusz Imiolek - Warren NJ, US
Jeffrey Fedor - Hopewell NJ, US
International Classification:
B65B001/04
US Classification:
141/012000, 141/250000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dispensing and distributing a powder is disclosed that uses a rotary dispenser to dispense the powder by gravity onto a movable platen, the platen being movable to a position adjacent to a build bed where the powder can be distributed across the build bed using a spreader. The method and apparatus are also suited to dispensing of a plurality of powders used in build beds for solid free-form fabrication and three-dimensional printing. It is preferred that a powder contacting surface of the apparatus be coated with a coating selected from the group consisting of: an anodized finish, a hardcoat anodized finish, siloxane, baked enamel, electroplated enamel, electroless nickel, coated elastomer, laminated elastomer, dipped latex, sprayed latex, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyurethane, an epoxy resin, or a polyester.

Apparatus, Systems And Methods For Use In Three-Dimensional Printing

US Patent:
7008209, Mar 7, 2006
Filed:
Jul 3, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/190333
Inventors:
James P. Iskra - Somerset NJ, US
Timothy J. Pryor - Yardley PA, US
Ireneusz J. Imiolek - Warren NJ, US
Jeffrey A. Fedor - Hopewell NJ, US
Assignee:
Therics, LLC - Akron OH
International Classification:
B29C 41/02, B29C 41/36
US Classification:
425182, 264497, 425215, 425218, 425447
Abstract:
Apparatus, systems and methods for use in three-dimensional printing are shown and described. Various embodiments of the invention allow for more precise and controlled delivery of heat to achieve interlayer drying; isolation of the working region from the outside for reasons of cleanliness and in connection with the vapors of organic solvents; better control of the temperature of the working region; better accuracy in the flowrates of binder fluid dispensed; matching of delivered flowrates for multiple dispensers; verification of delivered flowrate or drops; provision for easier changeover of the machine from one powder to another; cleanability; and other needs.
