Delighted to have been asked to write two of the POD-IDEA Notes at the IDEA web site (www.theideacenter.org) years ago and am in process on updating those two now as part of the POD initiative to do so. See the Winter 2011 issue of _Liberal Education_ at www.aacu.org/liberaleducation/ for an article by Prof Andy Fort, one of the TCU faculty involved in our learning outcomes initiative -- he speaks of his conversion to assessing learning outcomes from the commonly-held point of view among faculty that "assessment" is a dirty word, something that must be endured whenever accreditors come around and which usually includes "taking one for the team" if one gets stuck with assessment duties, to realizing that assessing learning outcomes really tells him about his students' learning. Article includes a sidebar in which I give advice from lessons learned as we built the training and use of a learning outcomes manager tool. We're over 30 faculty into the initiative, now in our 3rd year.
