Non-Newtonian Projectile

US Patent:
7966937, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Jan 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/348189
Inventors:
Jason Stewart Jackson - Atlanta GA, US
International Classification:
F42B 30/02, F42B 12/74, F42B 12/34
US Classification:
102517, 102510, 102501
Abstract:
A projectile is provided comprising a body with a channel that contains a non-Newtonian fluid. In various embodiments a plunger is located in the channel, wherein the plunger transmits a force to the non-Newtonian fluid upon interacting with a target, causing the non-Newtonian fluid to exert a pressure in the channel, and wherein the viscosity of the non-Newtonian fluid changes upon interacting with the target. By way of non-limiting example, the non-Newtonian fluid of embodiments of the present invention can comprise a shear-thickening fluid that increases its viscosity with at least the rate of shear upon interacting with the target.

Firearm Operating Rod

US Patent:
8176837, May 15, 2012
Filed:
Oct 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/902142
Inventors:
Jason Stewart Jackson - Atlanta GA, US
International Classification:
F41A 5/24
US Classification:
89193
Abstract:
The embodiments of the present invention generally provide or relate to an operating rod for use in an auto-loading firearm. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention provide an operating rod for selectively actuating a bolt carrier by gas-impingement or mechanical operation. The operating rod can comprise an operating rod gas duct coupled to an operating rod gas tube, wherein gases from a fired cartridge are directed into the gas duct and flow through the gas tube to actuate a bolt carrier by gas-impingement. Alternatively, gases from a fired cartridge can be directed against a forward-end of the operating rod, thereby causing the operating rod to mechanically operate the bolt carrier.

Poppet Valve And Engine Using Same

US Patent:
7647902, Jan 19, 2010
Filed:
Jun 26, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/146639
Inventors:
Jason Stewart Jackson - Atlanta GA, US
International Classification:
F01L 1/28, F02M 35/10
US Classification:
123 79C, 1231882
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a poppet valve offering an increased valve area, comprising an outer valve head having an outer valve port and an inner valve head having an inner valve port. The inner valve head is rotatable relative to the outer valve head to align the inner and outer valve ports, thereby increasing the effective valve area of the poppet valve. The path created by aligning the inner and outer valve ports can be designed to mix air flowing through the poppet valve. Another embodiment of the present invention provides a valve guide containing a poppet valve having a guide pin, wherein the guide pin rests within a groove in the valve guide. As the poppet valve moves through the valve guide, the groove controls movement of the guide pin and causes the poppet valve to rotate relative to the valve guide.
