Ultrasound Training Mannequin

US Patent:
2008029, Nov 27, 2008
Filed:
Jan 13, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/884118
Inventors:
Jason D. Wilkins - Springfield MO, US
International Classification:
G09B 23/28
US Classification:
434272
Abstract:
The ultrasound training mannequin () is a device that provides a realistic medical training device for use by medical personnel, especially those in the field of emergency medicine, to gain experience in applying and analyzing the results of common ultrasound examinations. The mannequin () comprises a life-size model of the male torso. The mannequin () has a simulated human skin () and tissue structure () made of a silicone. Internal organs, such as the lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, gall bladder, urinary bladder, and spleen are placed inside the model in their normal occurring relative positions. Heavier organs are modeled with a variable density silicone material to simulate the actual sonic density of these organs. The lungs are modeled with a variable density foam material to simulate the sonic density of actual lungs. The mannequin () also includes artificial venous and arterial channels emanating from and terminating at the heart.

Orthopedic Procedures Training Simulator

US Patent:
8439688, May 14, 2013
Filed:
Apr 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
12/223619
Inventors:
Jason D. Wilkins - Springfield MO, US
International Classification:
G09B 23/28, G09B 23/32
US Classification:
434274, 434262, 434267, 434275
Abstract:
The orthopedic procedures training simulator () is a mannequin () having an internal skeletal structure () for simulating orthopedic injuries. The interior skeletal structure () includes a plurality of skeletal structures, each movable between a first position simulating normal and healthy skeletal structure and a second position simulating an orthopedic injury. Motor tensionable cables joining larger joint structures allow for simulating muscular tension affecting the ability to reduce a dislocation of the joint. Force and positional sensors are disposed within the skeletal structures, and provide information to a computer system () to perform and monitor simulation. A computer program reads the sensors, and controls the motor tensionable cables to simulate orthopedic injuries and responses to applied corrective procedures and medications. The program generates pre-procedural x-ray images based on a desired simulation, and post-procedural x-ray images based on information obtained from the sensors both during and after the performance of a procedure.
