Philosophy:
Jan S. Alexander, LCSW is a clinical social worker, psychophysiologist and biofeedback therapist specializing in stress management. Biofeedback is a technique used to teach individuals how to regulate their reactions to stress. Sophisticated instruments monitor tension levels by measuring heart rate, muscle tension, sweat gland activity, and skin temperature. The goal is for the client to learn to recognize the stress response, develop new skills, and change the habitual response to stressful situations. Combining biofeedback and counseling enables individuals to become active participants in their own health and wellness. It is not a cure-all that magically rids the body of tension and stress. It requires awareness, skill acquisition, and learning to apply them in daily situations.
