Memory Address Mechanism In A Distributed Memory Architecture

US Patent:
5117350, May 26, 1992
Filed:
Dec 15, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/284529
Inventors:
Osey C. Parrish - Lauderdale Lakes FL
Robert E. Peiffer - Plantation FL
James H. Thomas - Plantation FL
Edwin J. Hilpert - Greenbelt MD
Assignee:
Flashpoint Computer Corporation - McLean VA
International Classification:
G06F 1206, G06F 1516
US Classification:
395425
Abstract:
A computer system having plural nodes interconnected by a common broadcast bus. Each node has memory and at least one node has a processor. The system has a dynamically configurable memory which may be located within the system address space of a distributed system architecture including memory within each node having a processor and the memory resident within other nodes. The memory in the system address space is addressable by system physical addresses which are isolated from the physical addresses for memory in each node. The node physical addresses are translatable to and from the system physical addresses by partition maps located in partition tables at each node. Memory located anywhere in the distributed system architecture may be partitioned dynamically and accessed on a local basis by programming the partition tables, stored in partitioning RAMs. The use of the partitioning process permits data to be duplicated throughout a distributed system architecture and permits read cycles for shared data to execute at local bus speeds.

Addressing Multiple Removable Memory Modules By Remapping Slot Addresses

US Patent:
5802544, Sep 1, 1998
Filed:
Aug 29, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/921720
Inventors:
James Lee Combs - Cary NC
Herman Rodriguez - Boca Raton FL
James Alan Strothmann - Lexington KY
James Randall Thomas - Boca Raton FL
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1206
US Classification:
711 5
Abstract:
The present invention provides a computer system supporting multiple, removable ROM-based applications without requiring the ROM-applications to be inserted into a particular slot. The computer system accepts one or more cartridges into any combination of slots. Once a cartridge is inserted into a slot, the computer system senses the insertion of a cartridge. The computer system then determines whether to swap the address ranges associated with the cartridge connectors, or slots. The address swap is implemented by either (i) swapping the cartridge connector chip selects or (ii) performing a page swap with the memory management unit.

Tie Tucking Apparatus

US Patent:
6276576, Aug 21, 2001
Filed:
May 8, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/567111
Inventors:
James B. Thomas - Boca Raton FL
International Classification:
A47G 2580
US Classification:
223111
Abstract:
A tie tucking apparatus for engaging an edge of a segment of a neck tie wrapped around a user shirt collar and for guiding the tie underneath the user shirt collar includes a plate of relatively unyielding material having a tie engaging end including a tie edge engaging slot extending into the plate and defining plate tabs separated by the engaging slot, the plate tabs being spaced apart by the engaging slot. The apparatus preferably additionally includes a collar abutment plate edge, and the collar abutment edge preferably is angled relative to the engaging slot so that the plate narrows at the tie engaging end to fit more easily under a collar. The plate preferably is elongate and has a plate longitudinal axis and two opposing plate longitudinal ends. The engaging slot optionally extends into the plate parallel to the plate longitudinal axis. Each plate longitudinal end preferably is a tie engaging end, so that the plate may be gripped by a user from either plate longitudinal end for use.
