Method Of Sealing Bile Duct During Cholangiography

Method Of Sealing Bile Duct During Cholangiography

US Patent:
4263917, Apr 28, 1981
Filed:
Apr 6, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/027739
Inventors:
James P. Moss - Louisville KY
International Classification:
A61B 500
US Classification:
128656
Abstract:
A self-sealing catheter apparatus and method are disclosed which are broadly useful in medical surgery and particularly to perform cholangiography or in connection with perfusion of the coronary arteries during open heart surgery. The catheter provides means for sealing a duct and introducing dye into the duct once the catheter has been placed inside of the duct. An inflatable balloon sleeve and adjacent reservoir are mounted near the distal end of the catheter. The distal end of the catheter is inserted into the duct until the reservoir contacts the outer wall of the duct and the balloon sleeve is thus located inside of the duct. Then, the reservoir is depressed forcing the fluid contained therein to inflate the balloon sleeve. The inflated balloon sleeve not only seals the duct against the passage of fluids therethrough, but also holds the catheter in place inside of the duct. The dye is then introduced into the duct via the catheter lumen.

Method For Marking An Article For Identification And Description And A Label Device Therefor

US Patent:
5127675, Jul 7, 1992
Filed:
May 17, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/524548
Inventors:
James W. Moss - Louisville KY
International Classification:
B42D 1500
US Classification:
283 70
Abstract:
A label for marking an article for identification and description includes a sheet of material such as paper or vinyl having one surface coated with an adhesive material, and at least one closed peripheral cut formed through the sheet defining the external boundary of identification and descriptive indicia. A method for marking an article for identification and description includes making at least one closed peripheral cut through a sheet of material in selected portions of the sheet to define the external boundary of identification and descriptive indicia, adhesively attaching the closed peripheral cut out portions of the sheet to a surface of the article, and covering the closed peripheral cut out portions and an area of the article surface beyond the external boundary of the closed peripheral cut out portions with a covering material thereby producing a three-dimensional image of the closed peripheral cut out portions.

Catheter For Cholangiography

Catheter For Cholangiography

US Patent:
5147334, Sep 15, 1992
Filed:
Jan 2, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/636739
Inventors:
James P. Moss - Louisville KY
International Classification:
A61M 2500
US Classification:
604264
Abstract:
A cholangiographic catheter is provided for delivering a contrast fluid for use in X-rays. The device comprises an elongated tube with a curved section. The curved section has a tapered tip and a means for discharging a fluid in a directional flow for reaching the proximal or intraheptic bile ducts as well as the duodenum. In a preferred embodiment, the catheter would have a first set of holes on the curved section and a second set of holes that are smaller than the first located below the first. This would allow for greater control of dispersion of contrast fluid used in X-rays. The catheter would be made of a medical elastomer with memory so that the catheter may maintain the shape of the curved section after the catheter has been inserted into the body.
