Chiropractic Treatment Table And Method For Spinal Distraction

US Patent:
6638299, Oct 28, 2003
Filed:
Sep 14, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/952587
Inventors:
James M. Cox - Fort Wayne IN 46825
International Classification:
A61F 500
US Classification:
606243, 606241, 5617
Abstract:
A chiropractic treatment table and method for treating a patients spine for providing true longitudinal distraction alone or in combination with vertical flexion and extension, lateral flexion, and/or rotation. The treatment table includes a longitudinally moveable head support portion slidingly mounted on an anti-friction structure whereby the head support portion is freely moveable with practically no frictional or drag. In view of the anti-friction structure, the net longitudinal distraction force is primarily only that which is applied by the chiropractor thereby not requiring adjustment or compensation for drag or other forces, and thereby providing the chiropractor substantially improved control of the actual applied distraction force for administering the desired distraction.

Chiropractic Manipluation Table With Flexion/Distraction Headpiece

US Patent:
5192306, Mar 9, 1993
Filed:
Apr 4, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/680309
Inventors:
Gerald R. Scott - Elmhurst IL
James M. Cox - Fort Wayne IN
Assignee:
Standex International - Salem NH
International Classification:
A61H 102
US Classification:
606243
Abstract:
A new and improved treatment table for supporting a patient in a face down prone position for chiropractic manipulation of the cervical vertebrae patient's spine includes a base extending upwardly of the floor to a convenient working level and a thoracic cushion for supporting a patient's body below the neck in the prone position at the work level. A headpiece is pivotally interconnected relative to the thoracic cushion for supporting the patient's head during manipulation treatment. The headpiece is pivotal about a laterally extending horizontal axis spaced at a level above the thoracic cushion and just below or at a level coincident with the patient's spine. The headpiece is also movable in lateral flexion about an upwardly extending axis and is rotatable about a roll axis generally coincident with the patient's spinal axis. Independent locks are provided for selectively locking or releasing the headpiece for movement about one or more of the respective axes at a particular time to effect a particular type of treatment. A height adjustable handle is mounted on the headpiece to facilitate the chiropractor in the manipulative treatment of the patient in flexion/distraction, lateral flexion, spinal rotation or selected combinations thereof such as circumduction.

Manifold For Liquid Dispensing Apparatus

US Patent:
4079864, Mar 21, 1978
Filed:
Dec 15, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/750812
Inventors:
James R. Cox - Fort Wayne IN
International Classification:
B67D 552
US Classification:
222255
Abstract:
A manifold for use in conjunction with fluid actuable liquid dispensing apparatus is disclosed for supporting and interconnecting such apparatus, especially where numerous individual liquid dispensers are employed, for example for lubricating various points in a system. The manifold allows individual dispensers, or sets of dispensers, to be disabled, for example for repair purposes, while others may continue to operate. Several such manifolds would typically be employed in a lubricating system with each comprising a block having a plurality of separated passageways therein, including at least one actuating fluid passageway with an inlet for connection to an actuating fluid source, and an outlet for connection to the liquid dispensing device, and at least a second passageway for the liquid to be dispensed, again having an inlet for connection to a liquid source, and an outlet for connection to the liquid dispensing device. An elongated generally cylindrical manually operable valve is disposed in the block for selectively opening and closing at least one, and preferably both, of the passageways, to enable or disable the particular dispensing devices associated with that manifold block. Each manifold block is typically configured as a rectangular parallelepiped, with the inlets communicating with a first face thereof, and the dispensing device outlets communicating with a second adjacent face thereof.
