Fastener For Unitary Pistol Hand Grip

US Patent:
4342170, Aug 3, 1982
Filed:
Aug 18, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/178948
Inventors:
Guy L. Hogue - Atascadero CA
James D. Mason - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Hogue Combat Grips, Inc. - Los Osos CA
International Classification:
F41C 2300
US Classification:
42 71P
Abstract:
A fastener for fastening a unitary hand grip to a pistol having a butt frame section with downwardly extending front and rear butt portions that are interconnected at their lower ends by a foot portion. One embodiment of the fastener has a yoke straddling the foot portion of the butt section, a pin extending between the openings in the upper sides of the yoke above the foot portion, a roller on the pin, and a screw for attaching the bottom of the yoke to the bottom of the unitary hand grip. The upper sides of the yoke contain concave depressions or dimples around the pin openings and the pin is dimensioned to be flush with the side edges of the yoke. The inside of the unitary hand grip is close to the outer side edges of the yoke and the concave depressions plus the length of the pin and the nearness of the wall of the hand grip prevent the pin from being dislodged from the yoke, even by heavy use of the pistol or from other shocks encountered in use.

Rifle Barrel Truss Mounting

US Patent:
5247758, Sep 28, 1993
Filed:
Dec 20, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/811804
Inventors:
James D. Mason - San Diego CA
International Classification:
F41A 2128
US Classification:
42 7502
Abstract:
A mounting structure adaptable to existing rifles and the like for bedding the receiver, action and barrel assembly securely in the stock without elaborate preparation and fitting. A rigid truss structure is formed by a beam secured between the receiver and a post portion on the barrel forward of the receiver which post can be the gas diverting block of a gas operated semi-automatic rifle, the assembly being attached to the stock entirely by the beam. The truss structure transfers the firing and recoil loads directly to the stock and effectively isolates the receiver and forward barrel sections from the associated vibrations.

Recoil Attenuator

US Patent:
6227098, May 8, 2001
Filed:
Jan 25, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/237500
Inventors:
James D. Mason - San Diego CA
International Classification:
F41A 390
US Classification:
89193
Abstract:
A recoil-attenuating system for a gun having a barrel and breech assembly slidably mounted on a supporting carriage, the system using combustion gases at an early stage in the firing action to drive a piston in a cylinder which in turn is connected to a fluid-damped attenuator connected between the barrel and the supporting structure. The system allows a considerable reduction in weight of the entire gun structure.
