Failed Bearing Indicator

US Patent:
6237877, May 29, 2001
Filed:
Feb 7, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/500344
Inventors:
James L. Wallace - Houston TX
Ronney L. Broussard - Pollock LA
International Classification:
B61K 904
US Classification:
246169A
Abstract:
A failed bearing indicator for detecting and indicating an overheated axle journal in a railcar axle bearing. In a preferred embodiment the failed bearing indicator is characterized by an elongated connector chain terminated on each end by a T-shaped connector bracket. Each of the connector brackets is typically bolted to a common pedestal adaptor which is mounted on each corresponding axle bearing of the railcar, and one of the fastening bolts is constructed of a heat-resistant material and the other fastening bolt is constructed of a heat-sensitive material. In the event that the axle bearing overheats during travel of the railcar on the railroad, the heat-sensitive bolt melts and releases the corresponding connector bracket from the pedestal adaptor, while the other connector bracket, secured by the heat-resistant bolt, remains attached to the pedestal adaptor. The released connector bracket, suspended from the connector chain, strikes and activates a typically conventional dragging equipment sensor adjacent to the railroad, to alert railroad personnel to the overheated bearing before complete failure of the bearing. In another embodiment a rectangular offset bend connector plate is provided on each end of the connector chain in place of the connector brackets, to facilitate attachment of the connector chain to the pedestal adaptor.

Treatment Of Aqueous Waste

US Patent:
4026791, May 31, 1977
Filed:
Oct 2, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/618877
Inventors:
James Edward Wallace - Houston TX
Assignee:
Pullman Incorporated - Chicago IL
International Classification:
C07C 3724
US Classification:
210 21
Abstract:
In the process of producing phenol from cumene, aqueous waste streams result which are contaminated with organic materials, particularly phenol, which are made innocuous to the environment only with substantial difficulty. A process is described to reduce the biological oxygen demand of these aqueous wastes, particularly the phenol content, by a liquid extraction step whereby a highly aromatic fraction of an organic waste stream in the phenol process is used as the solvent. The process includes provision for simultaneous preparation and recovery of the solvent as well as recovery of the phenol.

Drilling Tool

US Patent:
8042625, Oct 25, 2011
Filed:
Nov 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/610406
Inventors:
Ridha Chafai - Gloucestershire, GB
James Edward Wallace - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
National Oilwell Varco, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 10/26
US Classification:
175398, 175344, 175385, 175386, 175406
Abstract:
A drilling tool has a body with a main drilling region and a pilot drilling region, eccentric to the main drilling region. The main drilling region has main blades and the pilot drilling region has pilot blades. The main drilling region has a main pass-through diameter, centered upon a first axis, one of the main blades extending to the main pass-through diameter, the pilot region having a pilot gauge diameter, centered upon a second axis of rotation at least one of the pilot blades extending to the pilot gauge diameter, wherein part of a circle of diameter equal to the pilot gauge diameter and centered upon the second axis of rotation extends outside of a circle of diameter equal to the main pass-through diameter and centered upon the first axis.
