Apparatus For Forming Tubular Pipe Covering Sections

US Patent:
3994656, Nov 30, 1976
Filed:
Mar 24, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/561349
Inventors:
James G. Van Ausdall - Englewood CO
Assignee:
Ceel-Co - Denver CO
International Classification:
B29C 1702, B29D 2312
US Classification:
425391
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for forming generally tubular pipe covering sections with overlapping edge portions from a sheet of elastomeric material. For relatively thin material thicknesses the material is rolled on a male mandrel to provide a plurality of spiral wraps and this roll is heated to a selected temperature between 120. degree. F and 150. degree. F for at least 12 hours to effect a set in the roll. Selected lengths of the sheet material are cut from the roll to provide tubular pipe covering sections of a selected circumferential size. For relatively thick material thicknesses with substantial rigidity, a continuous roll of the material is cut transversely along its length to form a series of blanks. The length of the blank is established by the width of the roll and the width of the blank is selected according to the diameter of the pipe or insulated pipe to be covered. The blanks are preheated as they are carried on the upper stretch of an endless conveyor through a heater to a selected temperature between 120. degree.

Flexible Protective Cover Sections, Assemblies And Form System

US Patent:
4081941, Apr 4, 1978
Filed:
Oct 18, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/733540
Inventors:
James G. Van Ausdall - Englewood CO
Assignee:
Ceel-Co - Denver CO
International Classification:
E02D 560, E04C 334
US Classification:
52726
Abstract:
Protective cover sections and sealed assemblies thereof fully enclose structural shapes such as I-beams and the like to protect them against bacterial growth, mildew, corrosion and the like. Each cover section is generally thin-walled, substantially rigid, flexible and tough so as to resist chipping, denting and peeling. Each cover section has flexural joint portions that facilitate adjustment thereof to cover a range of structural shape dimensions. On-site applied assemblies of the cover sections are adaptable to a variety of existing structures and include a pair of cooperating cover sections with opposed edge portions of one connected to edge portions of the other at a pair of opposed, sealed, continuous seams extending along the cover. A cooperating pair of cover sections overlaps a next adjacent cooperating pair of cover sections and these pairs are connected at a sealed, continuous, circumferential seam and the ends of the assembly of cooperating pairs are closed by sealed, continuous, circumferential end seams. The assemblies closely conform to the cross-sectional shape of the structural shape covered and are secured thereto for a relatively close fit.
