Methods And Systems For Employing Artificial Intelligence In Automated Orthodontic Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

US Patent:
2013029, Nov 7, 2013
Filed:
Jun 28, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/930353
Inventors:
James Mah - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
G06N 5/04
US Classification:
706 52
Abstract:
Methods and systems for diagnosing and identifying a treatment for an orthodontic condition are disclosed. Such methods and systems generally entail the use of a server on which a centralized website is hosted. The server is configured to receive patient data through the website. The methods and systems further include the use of a database that includes or has access to (i) information derived from textbooks and scientific literature and (ii) dynamic results derived from ongoing and completed patient treatments. The methods and systems further include the operation of at least one computer program within the server, which is capable of analyzing the patient data and identifying at least one diagnosis of the orthodontic condition. The methods and systems further entail assigning a probability value to the at least one diagnosis, with the probability value representing a likelihood that the diagnosis is accurate. The methods and systems further include instructing the computer program to identify at least one treatment approach, a corrective appliance, or a combination thereof for the at least one diagnosis.

Methods And Systems For Producing Demonstration And Therapeutic Models Of Dentition

US Patent:
2010010, Apr 29, 2010
Filed:
Oct 29, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/290280
Inventors:
James Mah - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
A61C 5/08
US Classification:
433215, 433 24
Abstract:
In certain embodiments, the present invention relates to methods for producing demonstration models of dentition, which may be used for a variety of purposes, including, for example, installing dental implants in a patient and designing orthodontic devices. According to certain embodiments of the invention, methods for installing dental implants in a patient are provided. The methods generally comprise producing a demonstration model of a patient's teeth and a pilot hole for a dental implant and using the model as,a guide for drilling a pilot hole at the implant site. According to such embodiments, the step of producing the demonstration model comprises (a) capturing a digital image of patient's mouth region using a digital image acquisition system, (b) performing a digital image segmentation of the patient's teeth apart from a set of volumetric data (to produce a segmented image of the teeth), (c) identifying the implant site for the dental implant within the segmented image, (d) deriving the pilot hole and dimensions thereof at the implant site within the segmented image, and (e) manufacturing a real-sized demonstration model of the patient's teeth with the pilot hole disposed therein. The invention provides that a drill sleeve may be secured to the real-sized demonstration model within the pilot hole to produce a transfer tray, which may then be placed in the patient's mouth. According to such embodiments, the drill sleeve may be used as a guide for the pilot drill, such that the implant may thereafter be installed in the patient's mouth.

Novel Method And Device For Positioning Patients For Dental Imaging

US Patent:
2010002, Jan 28, 2010
Filed:
Jul 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/220400
Inventors:
James Mah - Las Vegas NV, US
International Classification:
A61C 19/00
US Classification:
433140
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and devices for positioning a patient's head prior to radiographic analysis for orthodontic and dental applications. According to certain embodiments of the invention, such methods comprise disposing a device in the patient's mouth and having the patient bite down on the device. The device used in such methods includes a planar radiolucent material having a mouthpiece in the center portion thereof, which is adjacent to a first concave contour that approximates the patient's left cheek and a second concave contour that approximates the patient's right cheek. The device used in such methods further comprises an outer horizontal edge that extends outwards from the patient's mouth, which is aligned with the patient's occlusal plane.
