Apparatus And Method For Specific Interstitial Or Subcutaneous Diffusion And Dispersion Of Medication

US Patent:
7232425, Jun 19, 2007
Filed:
Feb 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/080292
Inventors:
James LeVoy Sorenson - Salt Lake City UT, US
LeVoy Golden Haight - West Jordan UT, US
Assignee:
Sorenson Development, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61M 5/178
US Classification:
60416406, 604158
Abstract:
A medication discharge assembly useful in patient systems includes a tubular element and a stylet. In a first, closed position, the stylet is seated within the tubular element and may provide a piercing point facilitating insertion of the tubular element to a treatment site. In a second, open position, the stylet is removed from the tubular element, and the tubular element provides a travel pathway for a drug introduced to the tubular element at a proximal connection port for specific interstitial and subcutaneous diffusion and dispersion of medication along the tubular element's length near a distal discharge port through disparate perforations, which may be formed as striations of increasing length nearer the distal discharge port. The stylet in the first position may be oriented to seal this travel pathway. Depth-finding features associated with the tubular element, visually perceptible and particularly useful for placement of the assembly, may be included.

Autologous Blood System And Method

US Patent:
4047526, Sep 13, 1977
Filed:
May 22, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/580087
Inventors:
Gordon S. Reynolds - Bountiful UT
Karl A. Pannier - Salt Lake City UT
James L. Sorenson - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Sorenson Research Co., Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61M 500
US Classification:
128214R
Abstract:
An autologous blood system comprising at least two interconnected blood receptacles, the first of which is evacuated and connected to a suction device for aspirating blood. The second receptacle takes blood from the first by overcoming the vacuum in the first without interrupting the ability of the suction device to simultaneously aspirate blood. An infusion set is connected to the second receptacle to permit simultaneous collection of the blood from the patient and infusion of the blood back into the patient. The method includes aspirating blood from the patient and collecting blood in the first receptacle. Blood is thereafter transferred to the second receptacle by overcoming the vacuum in the first receptacle without interrupting the ability of the suction device to simultaneously aspirate blood. Blood is then returned to the patient either with or without disconnecting the second receptacle from the first, the infusion step taking place concurrently with blood collection.

Apparatus For Ventilating And Aspirating

US Patent:
5368017, Nov 29, 1994
Filed:
Mar 9, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/848030
Inventors:
James L. Sorenson - Salt Lake City UT
Valdon G. Reynolds - Bountiful UT
Stephen C. Mackert - Sandy UT
Joseph H. Jeffs - Sandy UT
David W. Kaufman - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Sorenson Laboratories, Inc. - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820026
Abstract:
A ventilating and aspirating apparatus for delivering respiratory gases to the trachea and the congested lungs and breathing passageways of a patient includes a flexible catheter tube extendable into and withdrawable from the patient's trachea. The catheter is housed within a pliable sheath extending from a manifold that is attachable to an endotracheal tube. The sheath has a slit defined by backing members formed along elongate opposed edges. A releasable, air tight "ziplock" seal is effected at the slit by a bead on one backing member and a groove to sealingly receive the bead on the other backing member. A "ziplock" actuator is structured as a slider member which travels along the bead and groove, and includes converging ends to hold the bead in the groove and a conduit member extending centrally through the slider member to interconnect an end of the catheter tube inside the sheath through a vacuum valve carried by the slider member outside the sheath to a vacuum source. The vacuum valve is operable by the same hand of a user that may be used to move the slider member.
