Philosophy:
We strive to be a physician practice dedicated to state-of-the-art care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases. We perform most endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (EGD), ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and are skilled in the therapeutic maneuvers associated with each.
Dr. Howden graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, in 1977. After serving seven years in the Army, he attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, graduating in 1988. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1991. After Duty as Chief of Internal Medicine, US Army Hospital, Berlin, Germany, Dr. Howden completed a gastroenterology fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas in 1996 and an Advanced Endoscopy fellowship at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 2001. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, with recertification in both in 2005. Dr. Howden retired from the Army as Chief of Gastroenterology, Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington and joined Associates in Gastroenterology in 2005.
In addition to gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Howden has specialized in therapeutic endoscopy and pancreatic and biliary disorders. He is a member of the ACP, AGA, and ASGE.
