Filed:
Mar 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/384161
Inventors:
Michael A. Morrison - Eagan MN, US
James A. Jordan - Eagan MN, US
Jon E. Freise - Minneapolis MN, US
Assignee:
DataCard Corporation - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
H04L 9/32, G06F 21/00
US Classification:
726 34, 726 17, 713184, 713186, 340 58
Abstract:
Improvements in security relating to the use of personalized document production equipment. The invention has particular use with respect to printers that are used to produce plastic cards, such as financial cards and identification cards. The invention prevents the unauthorized production of personalized documents through the use of stolen or fraudulently obtained production equipment or software. The equipment is locked until a user enters authorization data that matches authorization data stored in memory of the equipment. The equipment is able to power-up in the locked state, at which point the user is prompted to enter the authorization data. As a result, if the equipment is stolen, the thief is unable to operate the equipment without the necessary authorization data.

Closed Loop Control For An Image Transfer Section Of A Printer

US Patent:
6263796, Jul 24, 2001
Filed:
Dec 23, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/997439
Inventors:
James M. Jordan - Eagan MN
Assignee:
Datacard Corporation - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
B41L 302
US Classification:
101486
Abstract:
The present invention provides an image transfer section of a printer having a control system controlling the operation thereof, as well as a control system and method for controlling the operation of the image transfer section. In particular, the control system and method of the present invention ensures that horizontal and vertical registration of the card and web is attained. The control is adaptive, so as to automatically adjust to differing speeds and gear drives of the independent systems. The control system of the present invention also automatically adjusts the speed of the web take-up roll and the card drive rollers so as to match the speed of the applicator rollers, thereby eliminating the need for slip clutches in the various systems as well as guaranteeing speed matches between the independent systems. Further, since the receptor web has a plurality of horizontally spaced images printed thereon, the control system of the present invention is designed to ensure that the proper image is transferred onto the card.

Ball Joint Construction

US Patent:
7144182, Dec 5, 2006
Filed:
May 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/141598
Inventors:
James H. Jordan - Apple Valley MN, US
James H. Sandlin - Shakopee MN, US
Assignee:
QA1 Precision Products, Inc. - Lakeville MN
International Classification:
F16C 11/00
US Classification:
403143, 403124, 403125, 403126, 403141, 403142
Abstract:
A ball joint having a housing with a cylindrical cavity that has an open receiving end and a closed retaining end receives a polymeric insert and a non-deformable insert therein. The polymeric insert has a cylindrical outer wall that extends upwardly from a base and the interior of the insert defines a concave spherical contour. The non-deformable insert fits into a slot formed in the base of the polymeric insert and rests against the housing's bottom. A ball stud comprising a shank with a spherical ball at one end thereof snaps into the polymeric insert and the non-deformable insert. A retaining ring slips over the shank of the ball stud into the receiving end of the housing and its inner surface also has a spherical contour conforming to the spherical ball. The inserts, the ball of the ball stud and the retainer ring are held in the housing by forming the periphery of the housing at the receiving end to overlay the retaining ring.

Continuously Printing Images On A Web Material And Continuously Transferring The Images To Identity Documents

US Patent:
8264732, Sep 11, 2012
Filed:
Feb 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/679611
Inventors:
David L. Anderson - Chanhassen MN, US
James M. Jordan - Eagan MN, US
Assignee:
DataCard Corporation - Minnetonka MN
International Classification:
B41L 3/02
US Classification:
358 118, 27126501, 399 67, 399384, 399401, 399388
Abstract:
A system and method for continuously printing images on a web material and continuously transferring the images to identity documents. A print component prints images on the web material. A registration component registers select images to identity documents. An applicator component applies the select images to the identity documents. A controller maintains throughput of the web material through the print component, registration component, and applicator component. The controller allows the system to continuously print images on the web material and continuously transfer the images to identity documents, in that it synchronizes cycles of the components, so that the components have simultaneous processing cycles and have simultaneous intervals between processing cycles.

6078343, Jun 20, 2000
Filed:
Feb 10, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/797181
Inventors:
James M. Jordan - Eagan MN
Assignee:
Datacard Corporation - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
B41J 1142
US Classification:
347188
Abstract:
A variable speed print apparatus and method provide for adjustment of the effective print speed for each print line being printed on the work piece by determining a maximum shade value to be printed on each print line and adjusting the print speed for each line accordingly. When there is no printing on a given line of the work piece, that print line may be effectively skipped altogether.

Trailer Hitch

US Patent:
6846000, Jan 25, 2005
Filed:
Jan 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/353515
Inventors:
James E. Grinde - Farmington MN, US
Karl L. Hacken - Apple Valley MN, US
James J. Jordan - Apple Valley MN, US
Assignee:
Curt Manufacturing, Inc. - Eau Claire WI
International Classification:
B60D 144, B60D 150
US Classification:
280439
Abstract:
An improved fifth wheel hitch for attaching a trailer to a towing vehicle. The hitch includes an outer box support frame having two rails for mounting the trailer hitch to the towing vehicle, a spherical bearing mounted in the frame having a ball joint, and a latch assembly affixed to the spherical bearing to allow the assembly to have two degrees of movement, and a head body. The latch assembly comprises a base plate, a jaw fixed at a first elevation, and a vertically displaceable jaw. A means are provided to raise the vertically displaceable jaw above the level of the fixed jaw to allow release of the king pin latch. When the jaws are coplanar they capture the kingpin of a trailer, and safely lock the trailer to the hitch.
