Waste Recovery Cogenerator

US Patent:
2011003, Feb 17, 2011
Filed:
Apr 3, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/936157
Inventors:
James Edward Peret - Boylston MA, US
Assignee:
University of Miami - Miami FL
International Classification:
F01K 25/00, F02B 63/04, F01N 5/02, F02M 31/00
US Classification:
123 1 A, 123 3, 123557, 60320
Abstract:
A waste-to-energy cogeneration system is described in various embodiments. The system can convert certain fuel-laden waste to thermal energy and electrical power. In certain embodiments, fuel-laden waste which has not been pre-filtered or pre-treated to remove particulates and water is deposited in the cogeneration system and prepared by the system for combustion in an unmodified diesel engine. The fuel-laden waste can comprise oils, greases and fats from food preparation which are contaminated with water and particulates. Thermal and mechanical energy produced by the engine are utilized to provide thermal energy and electrical power external to the cogeneration system.

Trigger Activated Lancet

US Patent:
2006025, Nov 16, 2006
Filed:
Apr 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/400023
Inventors:
John Kim - Chelsea, CA
James Peret - Boylston MA, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/32
US Classification:
606181000
Abstract:
A lancet device including a housing and a lancet structure having a puncturing tip maintained within an interior cavity of the housing. The device incorporates a bow spring which cooperates with the lancet structure within the housing, and a trigger which extends laterally through and into the housing. The bow spring is resistive to movement, and therefore maintains the puncturing tip in a retracted position within the housing. Lateral movement of the trigger into the housing, such as through a pivoting trigger operation, biases the bow spring against this resistive to deflect the bow spring and extend the puncturing tip through the forward end of the housing to achieve a puncturing position.

Heat Transfer Device: Seal And Thermal Energy Contact Units

US Patent:
2009004, Feb 19, 2009
Filed:
Aug 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/893446
Inventors:
James Peret - Boylston MA, US
Laura C. Grisanti - West Seneca NY, US
Gerard E. Kedge - Orchard Park NY, US
Karl Cazzini - Orchard Park NY, US
James McGee - Watertown MA, US
International Classification:
A61F 7/00
US Classification:
607100, 607104, 607108
Abstract:
A device has four fundamental components: an enclosure, a soft seal, a vacuum system and a thermal energy system having a thermal energy contacting element. The device provides thermal energy therapy and negative pressure therapy device simultaneously and/or in conjunction to a patient. The device has a thermal energy system that is more efficient in thermal energy transfer and the soft seal decreases tissue interface pressure to obtain the desired soft seal effect.
