Fluid Amplifiers And Vibration Damping And Isolation Systems

Fluid Amplifiers And Vibration Damping And Isolation Systems

US Patent:
7732988, Jun 8, 2010
Filed:
Sep 26, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/239166
Inventors:
James Boyd - Glendale AZ, US
Dale T. Ruebsamen - Glendale AZ, US
Brett M. McMickell - Scottsdale AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
H01L 41/08, F16D 65/52
US Classification:
310328, 310311, 188298
Abstract:
Fluid amplifiers and vibration damping and isolation systems are provided. A fluid amplifier includes a housing assembly, a piezo-electric element, two amplification stages, and a rod. The piezo-electric element is disposed within the housing assembly and is capable of being energized to lengthen axially to provide an input stroke at an initial magnitude. The first amplification stage is disposed within the housing assembly adjacent to the piezo-electric element and is adapted to amplify the input stroke from the piezo-electric element to a first magnitude. The second amplification stage is disposed in series with the first amplification stage and is adapted to increase the input stroke from the first magnitude to a second magnitude that is greater than the first magnitude to yield an amplified input stroke. The rod extends through the second amplification stage and is coupled thereto to transmit the amplified input stroke having the second magnitude.

Tuned Mass Dampers And Vibration Isolation Apparatus

Tuned Mass Dampers And Vibration Isolation Apparatus

US Patent:
8261896, Sep 11, 2012
Filed:
Sep 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/233218
Inventors:
James H. Boyd - Glendale AZ, US
Dale T. Ruebsamen - Glendale AZ, US
Joseph E. Vecera - Glendale AZ, US
Toren S. Davis - Peoria AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F16F 7/10
US Classification:
188379, 188378, 188380
Abstract:
A tuned mass damper is provided for use with a structure that vibrates at a first axial surge mode and a second axial surge mode, when exposed to a predetermined frequency range. The tuned mass damper includes a housing, an endcap, two masses, and two springs. The first and second masses are disposed in a housing cavity. The first tuned mass damper spring is disposed in the cavity coupling the first mass and the endcap. The second tuned mass damper spring is disposed in the cavity coupling the first and second masses. The tuned mass damper has first and second resonant frequencies in the predetermined frequency range to damp the first and second axial surge modes, respectively. The second mass resonates at an amplitude that is greater than an amplitude at which the first mass resonates, when the two masses are subjected to the second axial surge mode.

Two Stage Vibration Isolator

Two Stage Vibration Isolator

US Patent:
8327985, Dec 11, 2012
Filed:
Jun 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/489128
Inventors:
James Boyd - Glendale AZ, US
Timothy Hindle - Peoria AZ, US
Dale Thomas Ruebsamen - Glendale AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F16F 7/10
US Classification:
188379, 188298, 1883225, 188380, 248562
Abstract:
A vibration isolating system is disclosed. The vibration isolating system comprises a passive mechanical system comprising a damping assembly, a first resilient member coupled in series with the damping assembly, and a second resilient member coupled in parallel with the series combination of the damping assembly and the first resilient member. The vibration isolating system further comprises a support member coupled in series with the passive mechanical system, a viscoelastic mount coupled to the support member, and a motion limiter coupled to the support member such that the passive mechanical system transmits a force to the support member when the passive mechanical undergoes longitudinal displacement greater than a predetermined displacement.

Vibration Isolators

Vibration Isolators

US Patent:
7967282, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Oct 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/256909
Inventors:
James R. Boyd - Glendale AZ, US
Dale Thomas Ruebsamen - Glendale AZ, US
Timothy Hindle - Peoria AZ, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F16F 1/38
US Classification:
267293, 26714013, 267280
Abstract:
Vibration isolators are provided that include a shaft, a first bushing, a second bushing, a first outer annular member, a second outer annular member, a first elastomeric member, a second elastomeric member, and a shim. The first elastomeric member is adapted to provide a first stiffness for damping a first vibration, and the second elastomeric member is adapted to provide a second stiffness for damping a second vibration, the second stiffness being greater than the first stiffness.
