Aerosol Spray Texturing Devices

US Patent:
6276570, Aug 21, 2001
Filed:
Sep 12, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/659886
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Bellingham WA
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Homax Products, Inc. - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B65D 8314
US Classification:
2224021
Abstract:
An apparatus for applying spray texture to a wall or the like. The apparatus comprises an aerosol can containing pressurized spray texture material. The spray texture material is released from the can by a valve and passes through a nozzle passageway, out of a discharge opening, and on to a surface to be textured. The apparatus further comprises an outlet member that can be placed over the discharge opening to vary the effective cross-sectional area thereof. This outlet member can be in the form of a straw or tube that is inserted into the nozzle passageway or a disc or other member having a plurality of outlet orifices formed therein. The outlet member having a plurality of outlet orifices can be attached directly to an actuator member in which the dispensing passageway is formed. By rotating, sliding, or otherwise moving the outlet member relative to the actuator member, any one of the outlet orifices in the outlet member can be arranged at the end of the nozzle passageway to vary the effective cross-sectional area of the discharge opening.

Aerosol Texture Assembly And Method

US Patent:
5934518, Aug 10, 1999
Filed:
Jun 5, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/870025
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Bellingham WA
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Homax Products, Inc. - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B65D 8314
US Classification:
2224021
Abstract:
An aerosol assembly for applying texture material to a surface in a plurality of pre-existing texture patterns. One or more actuator assemblies are employed, each one defining an outlet orifice having a different cross-sectional area. Each actuator assembly is associated with or can be reconfigured to be associated with a different pre-existing texture pattern. In one form, the actuator assemblies comprise a plurality of identical button members having an outlet chamber and a tube member inserted into the outlet chamber of each button member. The tube members define discharge passageways having different cross-sectional areas. The entire actuator assembly is removed and replaced to dispense a different texture pattern. In another form, the actuator assemblies are individual button members manufactured to define outlet chambers that form discharge passageways of different cross-sectional areas. In a third form, the actuator assembly comprises an actuator button and a tube member that comprises a plurality of different sections each defining a discharge passageway portion having a different cross-sectional area.

Appl. No.:
10/691897
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Clackamas OR, US
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA, US
Eivind Clausen - Bellingham WA, US
Assignee:
Homax Products, Inc. - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B65D 83/00
US Classification:
2224021, 222394, 22240225, 239337
Abstract:
An aerosol device for dispensing texture material for matching existing acoustical ceiling texture. The device comprises a container, a valve assembly, a dispensing nozzle, a hardenable material, and pressurized inert gas as a propelling mechanism. The hardenable material and pressurized inert gas are placed into the container. When the valve assembly is opened, the inert gas forces the hardenable material out of the container through the dispensing nozzle. The dispensing nozzle diverts at least a portion of the hardenable material exiting the container to develop a spray suitable for the application of the hardenable material onto the ceiling surface being textured. The hardenable material preferably comprises at least water, filler, binder, and polystyrene particles. The inert gas is preferably nitrogen.

Drywall Tape Applying Tool

US Patent:
5114527, May 19, 1992
Filed:
Jul 17, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/554798
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Bellingham WA
Jeff S. Heaton - Bellingham WA
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA
Assignee:
DJS&T Limited Partnership - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B44C 702
US Classification:
156575
Abstract:
A dry wall tape applicator where the tape moves through a chamber containing a taping compound and out a dispensing opening to a seam defined by two drywall panels. The dispensing opening is formed in part by an adjustably mounted plate, the position of which is controlled by a rotatable knob having an eccentric actuating stud member engaging a slot of the plate. The plate is held within close tolerances in a slideway so that the dispensing opening defines an accurately controlled slot of uniform width. The bottom wall of the housing has a convex configuration so that when the tape is in close proximity to the bottom wall, there is a proper application of the taping compound to the tape.

Manually Adjustable Spray Applicator

US Patent:
5069390, Dec 3, 1991
Filed:
Jul 31, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/560424
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Bellingham WA
Jeff S. Heaton - Bellingham WA
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA
Brett A. Bartholmey - Bellingham WA
Assignee:
DJ S & T Limited Partnership - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B05B 724
US Classification:
239320
Abstract:
A spray applicator to discharge plaster or another texturizing material in a spray pattern against a wall surface or the like. There is a manually operated air cylinder and piston assembly which discharges pressurized air through a first nozzle, with an air jet traveling through an area where the plaster or the material descends from a container, with the air jet carrying some of the plaster through a forward discharge nozzle to cause a spray pattern. There is a rotatable adjusting sleeve which moves the two nozzles further apart or closer together to control the spray pattern and also to close the discharge nozzle.

Actuator Systems And Methods For Aerosol Wall Texturing

US Patent:
2011015, Jun 30, 2011
Filed:
Dec 21, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/975190
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Clackamas OR, US
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
HOMAX PRODUCTS, INC. - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
B05B 1/14
US Classification:
239548, 239589
Abstract:
A dispensing system for texture material includes a main container, a secondary container, and a conduit. The main container stores texture material. The secondary container stores pressurized propellant material. The conduit is operatively connected between the main container and the secondary container. The conduit allows pressurized propellant material to flow from the secondary container to the main container, thereby forcing texture material out of the main container.

Aerosol Assemblies For Spray Texturing

US Patent:
7673816, Mar 9, 2010
Filed:
Jun 5, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/810504
Inventors:
Donald J. Stern - Clackamas OR, US
James A. Tryon - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Homax Products, Inc. - Bellingham WA
International Classification:
A62C 31/02, B05B 1/00
US Classification:
239391, 239 8, 239390, 239393, 239394, 239395, 239600
Abstract:
An aerosol assembly for dispensing texture material. The aerosol assembly comprises a main container assembly, a secondary container, and a conduit. The main container assembly comprises a main container containing texture material, an aerosol valve assembly, and an actuator member. The aerosol valve assembly is operable in a normally closed configuration and an open configuration. Displacement of the actuator member places the aerosol valve assembly from the normally closed configuration to the open configuration. The conduit is connected between the main container and the secondary container to allow fluid flow between the main container and the secondary container. When the actuator member is displaced to place the aerosol valve assembly into the open configuration, the pressurized fluid within the secondary container enters the primary container to force texture material out of the main container.
