Polymer Encapsulated Pigment Dispersion With High Solids Content

US Patent:
8383701, Feb 26, 2013
Filed:
May 4, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/800351
Inventors:
Hui Liu - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
C08K 9/04, B01J 13/02
US Classification:
523205, 523400, 523160, 42840224
Abstract:
The present invention is drawn to a method of forming an encapsulated pigment dispersion and pigment dispersions that can be prepared therefrom. The method includes mixing a pigment particle in liquid vehicle dispersion with a mini-emulsion of monomers. A redox initiating agent is added to the liquid vehicle and the monomers are polymerized on the surface of the pigment particles. The resulting encapsulated pigment dispersion has a total solid content of at least 12 wt %.

8133934, Mar 13, 2012
Filed:
Apr 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/796629
Inventors:
Hui Liu - San Diego CA, US
Paul Joseph Bruinsma - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
C09D 11/10
US Classification:
523160, 523161, 524556
Abstract:
A method of formulating a latex ink composition for a specific application temperature can include the steps of determining an application temperature for the latex ink composition; choosing at least one polar monomer having a dielectric constant of at least about 3. 1; synthesizing latex particulates using the at least one polar monomer; admixing the latex particulates with a colorant, in a liquid vehicle, to form the latex ink composition; where the latex particulates are film forming at or below the application temperature, and the Tof the latex particulates is no more than about 15° C. less than the application temperature.

Encapsulation Of Pigment Particles By Polymerization

US Patent:
7741384, Jun 22, 2010
Filed:
May 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/433893
Inventors:
Hui Liu - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
C09D 11/00
US Classification:
523160, 523202, 523200, 523333, 526 88, 526 89, 526229, 106 316, 347100
Abstract:
A method of preparing an ink includes homogenizing a dispersion to coat pigment particles in the dispersion with a monomer. An ink for use in a printing device includes pigment particles encapsulated in a polymerized monomer, where the monomer has a polarity that is higher than a polarity of a surface of the pigment particles.
