Method For P-Domain Frame Level Bit Allocation For Effective Rate Control And Enhanced Video Encoding Quality

Method For P-Domain Frame Level Bit Allocation For Effective Rate Control And Enhanced Video Encoding Quality

US Patent:
2010011, May 6, 2010
Filed:
Sep 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/311372
Inventors:
Hua Yang - Plainsboro NJ, US
Jill MacDonald Boyce - Manalapan NJ, US
International Classification:
H04N 11/04
US Classification:
37524001, 375E07001
Abstract:
A method is claimed for encoding a group of pictures at a target bit rate. A pre-analysis procedure () is performed for each frame in the group of pictures as to develop a series of parameters. A pre-processing procedure is then performed for a frame selected from said group of pictures (), so that the parameters associated with the selected frame are updated while the parameters associated unencoded frames from the group of pictures remain the same. These two sets of parameters are then used to determine an allocated bit rate () for the frame such that when the frame is actually encoded, the allocated bit rate is reserved for the encoding operation. The allocated bit rate and the target bit rate for the group of pictures may be different, and the quantization level associated with the allocated bit rate may be different than the quantization level associated with the actual bit rate used to encode the frame.

Filed:
Feb 16, 2011
Appl. No.:
12/932061
Inventors:
Hua Yang - Plainsboro NJ, US
International Classification:
H04N 7/26
US Classification:

Distortion Estimation

Distortion Estimation

US Patent:
2010027, Nov 4, 2010
Filed:
Jun 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/312796
Inventors:
Hua Yang - Plainsboro NJ, US
Jill MacDonald Boyce - Manalapan NJ, US
Xiaohui Wei - Arlington TX, US
International Classification:
H04N 7/26
US Classification:
37524027, 375E0719
Abstract:
According to an implementation, a value of distortion is determined (). The value is associated with at least a portion of a particular picture in a series of pictures. The value is based on distortion () in the particular picture that is attributable to error in the particular picture or in a previous picture in the series. The value is also based on distortion () in a subsequent picture in the series that is attributable to error in the particular picture or in a previous picture.

Reduced Video Flicker

Reduced Video Flicker

US Patent:
2010027, Nov 4, 2010
Filed:
Dec 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/735342
Inventors:
Hua Yang - Plainsboro NJ, US
Jill MacDonald Boyce - Manalapan NJ, US
Gad Moshe Berger - Dayton NJ, US
International Classification:
H04N 7/32
US Classification:
37524013, 375E07243
Abstract:
Various implementations for reducing artifacts such as, for example, I-frame flicker are proposed. Particular implementations produce a no-flicker reference in which a picture intended to be coded as an I-frame is, first, coded as a P-frame using a reference picture from the previous GOP. Thus, continuity with the previous GOP is provided. According to a general aspect, a source image is inter-coded to produce coded source data. The coded source data is decoded to produce a modified source. The modified source is intra-coded to produce coded modified-source data. The coded modified-source data is decoded to produce a reference image.
