An adjustable stop for gripping a rod at selected locations intermittent the length of the rod, including a base member with a pair of longitudinally spaced openings for receiving a rod having a longitudinal axis. A clamp member is provided with an opening located between the base member openings for receiving the same rod. A cam surface is provided on the clamp member for engaging the base member to misalign the clamp member opening between the two base member openings for gripping the rod with the three openings as the clamp member is rotated about the rod's longitudinal axis when the rod extends through the adjustable stop. A pair of laterally spaced abutment portions are provided on the base member, which abutment portions are separated by a distance substantially greater than the rod's transverse dimension for slidingly engaging only a portion of the periphery of a supporting structure that is substantially larger than the rod so that remaining portions of the supporting structure remain free for performing other functions as the stop moves relative to the supporting structure in a direction generally parallel to the rod's longitudinal axis as the abutment portions limit rotational movement of the stop during longitudinal adjustment.

A hypodermic syringe with a snap fitted handle grip retained on the syringe by a cam lug. A spring biased plunger of the syringe is attached to a metering rod extending longitudinally along side the plunger and through a guide passage in the handle grip. This metering rod has a circumferentially gripping spring stop that is manually slidable along the metering rod to set a particular dosage for the pumping syringe. A dispensing end of the syringe is connected to a double check valve system which is in turn connected to a reservoir container. This syringe pumping system is useful in hospital pharmacies for filling a series of smaller syringes or vials with metered dosages of diluent of medicament from a larger bulk reservoir container. It is also useful for hospital procedures, such as a thoracentesis, or other industrial or laboratory uses.

The instrument includes a hollow cannula with a beveled distal tip and a tapered slot extending proximally from the distal tip of the cannula. A stylet slides freely within the cannula and has a distal tip beveled at an angle corresponding to the bevel of the distal tip of the cannula. A handle is provided for supporting the cannula and the stylet and includes a mechanism for advancing the stylet distally to align the beveled distal tips of the cannula and the stylus to form a plane which resolves the forces exerted by the resilient haptic in a direction which urges the haptic into the capsular bag.
