Method For Making Dental Impressions

US Patent:
4468202, Aug 28, 1984
Filed:
Feb 8, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/346570
Inventors:
Howard Cohen - Brooklyn NY
International Classification:
A61K 608
US Classification:
433199
Abstract:
A material and method are disclosed facilitating the forming of impressions of teeth and/or supporting structures, such as the alveolar ridge to be duplicated and restored. An elastomeric impression material, preferably subject to photochemical or chemical curing, is provided, such for example as formed from polyesters, polyethers, polysulfides, silicones, and ethylene imines, or derivatives thereof, containing a filler material, such as talc, calcium carbonate, colloidal silica, glass, quartz, acrylates, etc. , and impregnated with a hemostatic agent such as a vasoconstrictor or astringent or the like with the impression material serving to maintain subgingival tissue in a retracted condition without bleeding, so as to permit an impression to be taken of a tooth surface area and volume extending below the gumline, without requiring use of gum retracting cords or bands. In use, a portion of the impression material in a cord, ring or rhomboid shape, or the like, is wedged between the gum and the tooth to conform to the contour of the tooth below the gum and cured by chemical or photochemical means. This procedure is followed by the taking of an impression with material adhering to the impression material below the gum, thereby providing an exact duplication of the tooth, both above and below the gum.

Power Driven Brush Assembly

US Patent:
4274173, Jun 23, 1981
Filed:
Jul 5, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/054943
Inventors:
Howard Cohen - Brooklyn NY
International Classification:
A46B 1302
US Classification:
15 28
Abstract:
A power driven brush assembly for cleaning teeth or the like. The brush assembly is formed with a hollow handle element containing drive means coupled to a power transmission extending from the handle element through a handle extension which carries a plurality of brush supporting members remote from the handle element. A plurality of brushes, one for each brush supporting member, is provided, with at least one of said brushes contoured with a cup-shaped cavity at a free end thereof remote from said brush support to implement the facility with which the outer edges of the brush may be bent to approximate the contours of the surface to be brushed. A method based on the same inventive concept is also disclosed for implementing the facility with which a surface may be brushed. This is accomplished by forming a plurality of brushing members with relatively unrestrained brushing portions free to flex to and from a longitudinal axis of the brushing member, and mounting the brushing members for rotation about the longitudinal axis thereof; and thereafter driving the brushing members to bring the relatively unrestrained brushing portions over the surface to be brushed with adjacent brushing members rotating in opposite directions.

Cricothyrotomy Apparatus

US Patent:
3991765, Nov 16, 1976
Filed:
Apr 9, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/566447
Inventors:
Howard Cohen - Brooklyn NY
International Classification:
A61B 1724, A61B 1732, A61M 1600
US Classification:
128305
Abstract:
Cricothyrotomy apparatus for establishing an emergency breathing path for patients experiencing upper respiratory obstruction. The apparatus here provided enables the user to perform the necessary operative steps on a patient in a relatively automatic and hidden fashion, so that the user is not aware of the fact that he is piercing the patient's throat and inserting a tube therein. This is accomplished by providing a housing enclosing a spring pressed surgical blade and spring pressed tube or according to a second embodiment, a combined spring pressed tube and blade. A release mechanism actuated by a simple pressure button on the exterior of the housing releases the knife and tube (or tube with piercing blade) for automatic positioning at the desired point in the throat of the patient. A location marker is further provided to insure desired positioning of the cut and tube on the patient.
