Method And System For Monitoring A Receiving Circuit Module And Controlling Switching To A Back-Up Receiving Circuit Module At A Local Collection Facility From A Remote Facility

US Patent:
2009007, Mar 12, 2009
Filed:
Sep 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/853737
Inventors:
Hoang D. Pham - Westminster CA, US
Jeanet C. Mika - Manhattan Beach CA, US
Assignee:
THE DIRECTV GROUP, INC. - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
H04N 7/20
US Classification:
725 71
Abstract:
A system and method for remotely collecting signals includes a local collection facility comprising a plurality of primary receiving circuit modules comprising a first receiving circuit module. The first receiving circuit module receives a first channel signal and forms a first encoded signal. The system further includes a remote facility having a multiplexer, and a router routing the first encoded signal to the multiplexer. The remote facility generates an output signal in response to the first encoded signal. A monitoring system receives an error signal from the first receiving circuit module. The router routes the error signal of the first receiving circuit module to the monitoring system. The system also includes a back-up receiving circuit module. The router routes the first channel signal to the back-up receiving circuit module to form a second encoded signal. The monitoring system monitors the second encoded signal. The router routes the second encoded signal at the local collection facility to the multiplexer at the remote facility in response to monitoring the second encoded signal. The remote facility forms the output signal in response to the second encoded signal.

Method And System For Switching To An Engineering Signal Processing System From A Production Signal Processing System

US Patent:
8072874, Dec 6, 2011
Filed:
Sep 11, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/853740
Inventors:
Hoang D. Pham - Westminster CA, US
Jeanet C. Mika - Manhattan Beach CA, US
Assignee:
The DIRECTV Group, Inc. - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
H04J 3/04, H04H 20/28
US Classification:
370216, 370487, 370537
Abstract:
A system and method for transitioning to a back-up or engineering signal processing system includes a remote facility having multiplexers and a primary signal processing system generating a first output signal, an IP network, and a plurality of local collection facilities generating a plurality of channel signals through a plurality of receiving circuit modules having respective encoders encoding the plurality of channel signals into a plurality of encoded signals. The plurality of local collection facilities communicating the plurality of encoded signals to the remote facility having a first signal processing system through the network. A first compression system controller is associated with the remote facility storing first configuration data for monitoring and controlling the plurality of receiving circuit modules and the multiplexers. An engineering compression system controller has an engineering signal processing system. The first compression system controller communicates the first configuration data to the engineering compression system controller.

US Classification:
370535, 370240, 370532, 455 301
Abstract:
A system and method for processing signal in a remote facility includes an IP network and a first local collection facility that includes a first plurality of receiving circuit modules receiving a first plurality of channel signals and generating a first plurality of IP encoded signals from the first plurality of channel signals and a first router routing the first plurality of encoded signals to the IP network. The system also includes a second local collection facility comprising a second plurality of receiving circuit modules receiving a second plurality of channel signals and generating a second plurality of IP encoded signals from the second plurality of channel signals and a second router routing the second plurality of encoded signals to the IP network. The system also includes a remote facility having a statistical multiplexer in communication with the IP network. The remote facility includes a compression system controller configuring the statistical multiplexer and at least one of the first plurality of receiving circuit modules and at least one of the second plurality of receiving circuit modules to form a multicast group so that at least one of the first plurality of encoded signals and at least one of the second plurality of encoded signals are multiplexed together with the statistical multiplexer to form an output signal.
