Eccentrically Rotatable Chair

US Patent:
4400032, Aug 23, 1983
Filed:
Nov 19, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/095450
Inventors:
Harry R. dePolo - New York NY
International Classification:
A47C 318
US Classification:
297349
Abstract:
A chair for business or home use comprises a rotatable seat supported on a single leg at the bottom of which is a ball bearing caster. The leg is connected by a telescopically extensible arm to a pivot post which projects upwardly from the center of a circular base plate on which the ball bearing caster is adapted to roll as the chair swings around the pivot post. The chair may also have a back rest which is mounted for universal movement on a back support which extends rearwardly from an upper portion of the chair leg and then upwardly. The ball bearing caster comprises a larger ball retained in a socket and resting on a circle of smaller bearing balls so that the larger ball can rotate freely in all directions. Alternatively the ball bearing caster comprises a plurality of balls in a retainer.

Garments Formed Of Helically Wound Material And Method Of Making Same

US Patent:
4368547, Jan 18, 1983
Filed:
Jul 27, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/287368
Inventors:
Harry R. dePolo - New York NY
International Classification:
A41B 1104
US Classification:
2409
Abstract:
In a method of making garments by helically winding bands of material, the bands are laid out side-by-side on stock material of predetermined width and the width of the bands is selected so that the sum of the widths of the bands is equal to the width of the material. This achieves a high degree of material utilization. The sizes of garments to be produced is independent, within limits, of the widths of the band, since larger or smaller garments can be made by varying the length of the bands and controlling the helical winding. In making pants-type garments, side extension pieces of generally triangular or trapezoidal form are joined to side edges of first and second bands which are helically wound to form the legs. Such side extension pieces are laid out on the material in alternately reversed, intercalated relation and adjusted lengthwise relative to one another so that the sum of the width of pairs of side extension pieces is equal to the width of the material. In making dress-type garments, a band to be wound helically to form a body portion of the garment is shaped so as to impart shape to the garment and may be cut as a plurality of pieces which are then joined.

Process And Apparatus For Making Garments Formed Of Helically Joined Pieces

US Patent:
4198916, Apr 22, 1980
Filed:
Jul 3, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/921181
Inventors:
Harry R. dePolo - New York NY
International Classification:
D05B 100
US Classification:
112 63
Abstract:
Strips of material fed from a supply roll are propelled helically around a cylindrical form with edges of adjacent convolutions of the material contiguous with one another and the contiguous edges of the material are joined together to form a tubular structure. Either before or after formation into a tubular structure the material is cut in predetermined manner into garment lengths and to provide armholes or other openings as desired. In one embodiment means is provided for joining adjacent edges of two or more narrower strips to form a wider composite strip which is then wound helically and edges of adjacent convolutions are joined to form a tubular structure. The narrower strips may be formed from wider material by continuous splitting means which is adjustable to provide different widths. An attachment for a sewing machine has inclined rollers engageable with strips of material being stitched to guide them so that their edges are contiguous as they are being stitched to an underlying tape.

Garments Formed Of Helically Joined Pieces

US Patent:
RE30833, Dec 29, 1981
Filed:
Jul 2, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/165365
Inventors:
Harry R. dePolo - New York NY
International Classification:
A41D 118
US Classification:
2105
Abstract:
A dress-type garment is formed of one or more strips of fabrics wound helically about the torso of the wearer and having contiguous edges of adjacent convolutions joined by helical seams. A pants-type garment is similarly formed by strips helically wound to form the legs, with upper end portions of the strips cut and joined by a central seam to form the upper portion of the pants. Another embodiment of a dress-type garment is made of first, second and third squares with two adjacent edges of the second square joined to two adjacent edges of the first square and the other two edges of the second square joined to two adjacent edges of the third square.

Umbrella

US Patent:
4084600, Apr 18, 1978
Filed:
May 12, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/796439
Inventors:
Harry Rudolph dePolo - New York NY
International Classification:
A45B 1100, A45B 1500, A45B 1900
US Classification:
135 20R
Abstract:
The inner ends of cover-supporting ribs of an umbrella are pivotally connected to a rib carrier which is longitudinally slidable in a hollow shaft by means of a handle extending out through a longitudinal slot in the shaft. The rib carrier is slidable by means of the handle between a closed position in which the rib carrier is near the lower end of the shaft and the rib members together with the cover are in the shaft and an open position in which the rib carrier is at the upper end of the shaft and the rib members radiate out from the rib carrier so as to support the cover. Locking means provided on the rib carrier engage inner ends of the ribs so as to hold them approximately perpendicular to the shaft when in open position. The rib carrier is retained in open and closed positions by a bullet-type spring latch. The cover is provided with pockets to receive outer ends of the ribs and is preferably formed of two-way stretch material.
