Stabilization Of Halogenated Polyols For Polyurethane Production

US Patent:
4239642, Dec 16, 1980
Filed:
Jun 29, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/053441
Inventors:
Harry V. DePaul - Eddystone PA
John R. Panchak - Wilmington DE
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
C08G 1814, C08G 1818, C08G 1834, C09K 300
US Classification:
252182
Abstract:
The storage stability of otherwise unstable premix compositions for flame retardant rigid polyurethane foams containing in the premix a chlorinated polyether polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, is enhanced by incorporation into the premix of a minor amount of a vinyl monomer. The preferred vinyl monomers employed are condensation products of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols or amines. Such stabilization prevents premature deactivation of the tertiary amine catalysts contained in the premix.

Stabilization Of Flame Retardant Premix For Polyurethane

US Patent:
4225453, Sep 30, 1980
Filed:
Jul 3, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/921422
Inventors:
Harry V. DePaul - Eddystone PA
David C. Fondots - Chalfont PA
Rocco L. Mascioli - Media PA
John R. Panchak - Wilmington DE
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
C08G 188, B01J 2702, C08J 902
US Classification:
252182
Abstract:
The storage stability of otherwise unstable premix compositions for flame retardant rigid polyurethane foams containing in the premix a chlorinated polyether polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, is enhanced by incorporation into the premix a synergistic combination of an organic sulfur compound and an unsaturated carbon compound. The preferred sulfur compound is thiourea; among the preferred unsaturated carbon compounds are unsaturated terpenes such as allo-ocimene and unsaturated higher fatty acids such as tall oil fatty acids and mono-, di-, and trienic C. sub. 18 acids.
