International Classification:
B61K 3/00, B61K 9/08
US Classification:
184 31
Abstract:
A wayside friction management system, and method for monitoring and controlling a wayside friction management system is described. The system comprises one or more wayside device for mounting with a track of a rail system. The wayside device comprises a delivery system connected to a reservoir comprising a friction control media, the delivery system for applying the friction control media from the reservoir to one or both rails of a track. The wayside device further comprises one ore more data collection module located at or adjacent to the delivery system. The data collection module for collecting and transmitting data to a remote performance unit. The data may comprise performance information, track status information, information of an environment of the track, information of a train passing over the track, status of the one or more wayside device, or a combination thereof. The wayside device may comprise a power source operatively connected to one or more components of the wayside device.

Stress Monitoring System For Railways

US Patent:
7869909, Jan 11, 2011
Filed:
Oct 24, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/552386
Inventors:
Harold Harrison - Friday Harbor WA, US
International Classification:
G01L 1/04, G01B 7/16, G01L 1/00, G06F 17/00
US Classification:
701 19, 73765, 73774, 73781, 73767, 246121, 324209
Abstract:
A rail stress monitoring system is disclosed. This system includes a sensor module that further includes a sensing device that is adapted to be mountable directly on a length of rail. The sensing device further includes a generally flat metal shim and at least one, and typically two or more, sensors mounted on one side of the shim. The sensors are typically strain gauges, which are mounted on the shim in a specific, predetermined configuration. At least one data acquisition module is in electrical communication with the sensing device and a data processing module receives and processes information gathered by data acquisition module.

Method And Apparatus For Detecting Track Failure

US Patent:
2014004, Feb 13, 2014
Filed:
Aug 13, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/966219
Inventors:
Harold Harrison - Friday Harbor WA, US
International Classification:
G01N 25/72
US Classification:
374 4
Abstract:
A railroad track monitoring system is described which detects changes in rail track geometry that could lead to derailments, The changes in geometry are detected via analysis of temperature and stress parameters that are collected at one or more sensors installed on the track. Methods are described which provide faster detection and reduced false alerts, thereby saving time and expense to the railroad system.
