Hans A. Hug - Weston MA
Alfred H. Bellows - Belmont MA
Assignee:
Foster-Miller Associates, Inc. - Waltham MA
International Classification:
E21C 500
US Classification:
173 43
Abstract:
An operator controlled roof bolter with a flexible shaft drill and a roof bolt inserter for drilling and inserting a roof bolt into an unsupported roof of a mine while the operator is positioned at an outby station under a supported roof. The flexible shaft roof drill is constrained to a frame of the roof bolter for pivoting movement between a rest position and a working position. The roof bolt inserter is mounted on a slide for linear movement and limited rotational movement between a retracted position and an extended position for positioning a roof bolt held by the inserter into registration with a hole drilled by the roof drill.

Abstract:
Disposal container structure for the disposal of waste radioactive materials includes inner structure comprising a cover member with an inlet port and an annular seal surface portion, and depending filter structure attached to the cover structure that includes circumferential side wall structure and bottom wall structure that defines an enclosed chamber volume in which waste materials are introduced for storage therein through the inlet port. The container structure further includes outer structure that has circumferential side wall structure corresponding in shape to the filter structure of the inner structure, bottom wall structure that defines a chamber for receiving the filter structure of the inner component, and annular seal surface structure formed on the side wall structure for mating with seal surface structure of the inner structure to seal the storage chamber volume defined by the filter structure. Discharge passages across the seal surface provide flow paths for discharge of liquid from the region between the circumferential inner surface of the outer structure and the circumferential outer surface of the filter portion of the inner component. The container structure also includes drive surfaces for mating engagement with centrifuge structure for releasably engaging drive surfaces of a centrifuge system for subjecting the container structure to centrifugal forces in excess of about fifty Gs for separating water and similar liquids from solids retained within the chamber structure of the inner component.

Stabilized Conical Boring Tool

US Patent:
4102416, Jul 25, 1978
Filed:
Sep 13, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/723015
Inventors:
Hans Albert Hug - Weston MA
Assignee:
Foster-Miller Associates, Inc. - Waltham MA
International Classification:
E21B 924
US Classification:
175227
Abstract:
A self-advancing conical boring tool with a tapered frame for supporting roller cutters, each of which has a frusto-conical body with a plurality of teeth randomly disposed about its periphery. Each roller cutter is constrained within a pair of thrust bearings and a pair of self-aligning spherical roller bearings for free rotation about an axis that is both oblique and skewed relative to a longitudinal axis of the tool. A flexible diaphragm is captively held to the frame proximate each roller cutter and forms a pressure compensated chamber for a bearing lubricant, one face of the diaphragm being adjacent a thrust bearing and the other face of the diaphragm being exposed to the environment through a vent.
