High Performance Boat Prop Guard With High Strength Attachment Bracket

US Patent:
5098321, Mar 24, 1992
Filed:
Sep 21, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/586416
Inventors:
Guy Taylor - Duchesne UT
International Classification:
B63H 116
US Classification:
440 67
Abstract:
A propeller guard including a cylindrically shaped ring which includes a plurality of evenly spaced openings therethrough. The openings in the ring are formed so as to allow water to pass therethrough during operation so as to improve the performance characteristics, specifically acceleration, plaining, speed and steering, of the motor. The ring is attached to the motor by an attachment bracket which is designed to inhibit fatigue and cyclical loading failure caused by vibrations of the ring during use. The ring is formed in a generally tapered recangular cross section in order to minimize the drag and vibration characteristics thereof during use. The ring is formed so as to be attachable to an outboard motor to surround the propeller thereof to protect the propeller from underwater objects.

Boat Propeller Shield

US Patent:
8257121, Sep 4, 2012
Filed:
Jul 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/833654
Inventors:
Guy Taylor - Duchesne UT, US
International Classification:
B63H 5/16
US Classification:
440 71
Abstract:
A propeller shield that is designed to pivot over and away from a distal face of a propeller on a motorized boat. Generally, when the boat is at rest or moving in reverse through water, the propeller shield pivots down over the propeller's distal face and prevents accidental bodily contact with the propeller. As the boat moves forward in the water, the propeller shield pivots up and away from the propeller to allow the boat to move forward without the propeller shield causing an undesirable amount of drag or otherwise adversely affecting the boat's performance. Typically, the propeller shield has a shield member, which is sized and shaped to cover the propeller's distal face, and a connection mechanism, which attaches the shield member to the boat. In some cases, the shield member optionally comprises one or more fluid vents and hydroplane surfaces.

High Performance Boat Prop Guard

US Patent:
6159062, Dec 12, 2000
Filed:
Jun 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/343302
Inventors:
Guy Taylor - Duchesne UT
International Classification:
B63H 516
US Classification:
440 71
Abstract:
A propeller guard including a multi-angled band formed of a plurality of independently radiused sections. The band may also include a plurality of evenly spaced ports therethrough. The multi-angled band is designed to improve the performance characteristics, specifically acceleration, planing, speed and steering, of the motor. The band is attached to the motor by an attachment bracket which is designed to inhibit fatigue and cyclical loading failure caused by vibrations of the band during use. The band may also include convex tapered inlet and outlet openings.
