Philosophy:

Receiving a diagnosis of prostate cancer can be an overwhelming experience. Numerous alternatives exist for the treatment of prostate cancer. For many men, surgery is a good option. The da vinci robotic system has been shown to be an important tool in treating prostate cancer with outcomes proven to be equivalent to open prostatectomy surgery. In addition, most men lose only a few ounces of blood, experience less pain and are back to their normal routines faster than with an open procedure. Minimally invasive surgery has changed the way that we approach many cancers in general and prostate cancer in particular. Given the rapid advancement of these techniques, I completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and oncology at Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle. This extra training has allowed me to focus my practice on prostate cancer and the use of the da vinci robotic system to treat it. I believe that the da vinci prostatectomy has not only changed the way that we treat prostate cancer, but will also affect the outcomes that we see with it.

Abstract:

A process of writing sector header data in the form of a stream of digital bits producing features located at varying radial positions on a master recording disk. Synchronized with rotation of the disk, a variable delay having a duration which varies with the radial positions of the bits on the disk is introduced into a clock signal. In the preferred embodiment, using the clock signal, a highly accurate, variable time delay is generated between the rotation of a master recording spindle and the recording of sector header data on a master disk mounted on the spindle. Thus, optical disks manufactured from the master disk have arc-shaped sector header spokes exhibiting maximum spatial accuracy and resultant maximal timing accuracy.

Abstract:

The invention is directed to verify software to determine the quality and accuracy of data recorded on an optical data storage disk by an optical disk drive. A verify software module receives error information from the optical disk drive indicative of errors associated with the recovered data. The verify software module then generates an indication of data integrity based on the error information and presents the indication to a user of the optical disk drive via an output device. The data integrity indication identifies whether or not the data was recorded correctly and predicts how long the data will last. The indication is especially useful for data storage applications where reliable data archive is vital. The verify software may be distributed as a CD-ROM included with a multi-disk package of optical disks. The verify software CD-ROM may include a tutorial to be presented to the user via the output device.
