US Patent:
7519057, Apr 14, 2009
Filed:
Aug 26, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/647962
Inventors:
Martin Lund - Menlo Park CA, US
Gregory Young - Laguna Niguel CA, US
Assignee:
Broadcom Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28, G06F 15/16, G06F 3/00
US Classification:
370389, 370400, 370398, 709219, 709233, 710 60
Abstract:
Aspects of the invention include receiving a first packet from a first of a plurality of blade servers at a first data rate and determining a second blade server that may receive the first packet. Data responsive to the received first packet may be transferred to the second blade server at a negotiated first data rate. A second packet comprising at least a portion of the first received packet may be transferred to the second blade server at the negotiated data rate. At least a portion of the first received packet may be transferred to at least the second blade server via a common bus. In another aspect of the invention, at least a third packet may be received from a network at a second data rate. Data responsive to the third packet may be transferred to at least a third blade server at a newly negotiated data rate.

System And Method For Supporting Multiple Users

US Patent:
8171500, May 1, 2012
Filed:
Mar 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/053718
Inventors:
Uri El Zur - Irvine CA, US
Gregory Young - Laguna Niguel CA, US
Assignee:
Broadcom Corporation - Irvine CA
International Classification:
G06F 13/00
US Classification:
719318, 719330, 718 1
Abstract:
Systems and methods that support splitting a compute resource from its input/output and sharing among one or more users are provided. In one embodiment, a system that supports one or more user devices may include, for example, a compute engine, a first user device and a second user device. The compute engine may be adapted to provide virtualization. The virtualization may provide, for example, a first instance of a particular operating system and a second instance of the particular operating system. The first user device may be coupled to the compute engine and may access the first instance of the particular operating system. The second user device may be coupled to the compute engine and may access the second instance of the particular operating system. In one example, the user devices are input/output devices that do not run applications or operating systems.
